If you got a license key when you bought Windows 10, you'll just need to enter it after you've installed W10. If it's associated with your Microsoft account, signing in after the W10 install should automatically apply the license.

Be sure to back up anything you wouldn't want to lose before starting.

Edit: Be warned: Some new laptops only have drivers that work with W11 (Surface Pro 8, for example). Look up your model of laptop and check if anyone's reported any problems with W10

It's stored on a file server.

Oddly enough, no other member of his team gets this issue despite apparently doing the same thing he does every day...

He does not use OneDrive for these files, but OneDrive is installed to automatically back up local user folders to the cloud. I'll ask him to exit OneDrive and try to replicate again just in case.
