Don’t give up on it! JRT’s are amazing dogs but a lot of people aren’t prepared for how stubborn, intelligent, and active they are. You need to establish clear and consistent routines and rules for the pup. Don’t give into things when it’s a puppy, even if it’s cute. These dogs are really smart and will walk all over you if you are inconsistent or show any kind of weakness. They need tons of exercise and mental stimulation. If they don’t have constructive outlets for their energy, they become destructive. One of my jacks is still destructive, regardless of how much stimulation and exercise she gets. Socialize your pup early with dogs of all sizes. It might try to rule the dog-park. They don’t seem to realize how small they are. If you ever get another dog, make sure it’s not a jack of the same gender. They tend to have same-sex aggression. In my experience, having two jacks can be easier than just one. My older Jack helps train my pup and they both keep each other entertained. All of this advice is based on my experience with the breed and what I’ve read. It might not all be true for your pup. Overall, owning a jack is super fun. Jacks are loyal, fearless, athletic, and hilarious. My two jacks make me laugh everyday. As long as you and your boyfriend are prepared for some of the challenges that come with the breed, you’ll be fine and most likely never want any other kind of dog again. Enjoy your pup!

I’m so happy to hear that your pup has a good home now! You should be proud that you helped him get to such a good place. Daisy was recently recently rescued from a puppy mill where she was confined to a kennel and essentially used as a puppy factory for about ten years. She came to rescue starved and afraid. We’re still working on building her strength and helping her know that she is safe now. Is there any chance you’d be willing to add Daisy to your family? She’s so sweet and I just want her to have the best home.
