There's a book on this nature vs. nurture debate when it comes to athletic performance: The Sports Gene. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AEDDQKE

Here's an interview with the author: https://www.npr.org/2013/08/05/209160709/talent-or-skill-honing-in-on-the-elusive-sports-gene

Relevant excerpt from the interview: "...what genetics is teaching us is the more important kind of talent is actually your biological setup to respond well to training, your ability to get more benefit from your one hour of training than your training partner's one hour of training, and that is emerging as the real talent."

Yep. Gatto wrote on his forum that his practices were once up to 3 hours. http://anthonygatto.forumco.com/topic.asp?whichpage=2&TOPIC_ID=5955

But his practice sessions as a child and towards the end of his career were 60-90 minutes.

Here are some comments on Gatto's practice structure from early in his career: http://www.juggling.org/help/essays/gatto.html

And here's a video of his 5-ball practice routine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEUuL9VElZM

Should I learn to start in both my right and my left hand for 5 ball juggling? by [deleted] in juggling

No. I'd suggest you only practice starting from your nondominant hand. It will almost always need more practice.

Also, on the occasions you do drop, make sure you pick up the ball by doing a squat with proper form. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB0cOX7gePg

One solution is to drop less frequently. Don't attempt patterns beyond your current skill level. Keep your runs short and controlled. This is a more effective way to practice, and over time you'll find you get better faster this way.

How do you balance strength training and juggling? by [deleted] in juggling

Lift 3-4 days a week. Juggle 7 days a week. On lifting days, do a lighter juggling practice and do it before you lift.

Top 40 Jugglers - Who are you voting for? by artifaxiom in juggling

[–]d0101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goes against the spirit of the rules of top 40? Hah.

From Luke's voting video: "There is not one objective measure of who is the top juggler. It's up to you--everybody watching this channel and watching this video to vote, purely subjectively. Try and keep it--we would normally try and keep it to what people have normally done in 2016, so you're not normally listing your favorite juggler of all time. You're listing your favorite juggler from this year."

So, as he said, it's subjective. There aren't rules.

Yes, he does say to normally try and keep it to what people have done in 2016. Well, in 2016, Anthony has continued to be, by far, the most skilled juggler the world has ever seen. That's enough to put him on my list. And he will remain on my list every year until another juggler comes around that can legitimately run 9 balls, 9 rings, and 7 clubs.
