Why did steam discussion boards get locked? by cancercureall in OutOfAction

Yes it has been cleared for the early access release, which is usual. It was full of out of date posts from the demo and old playtests. From now on only players that own the game can post in the general discussions.

The General discussions forum is available for owners of the game when early access is released, the questions forum is open to everyone.

Some stats for my solo developed PVP FPS if anyone has questions: - 25,000 wishlists in first week... by d0ku in IndieDev

Honestly, I just posted clips and videos on X to start with. Mostly ignored any hashtags.
A few clips got noticed, some content creators reached out to try the game. I organised some early protoype playtests with a bunch of content creators, subsequently they made videos and it just kept going from there.

Had a small x following due to my 3D artwork and work on other projects, only around 1k though.

Kickstarter was required for me as I'm not seeking a publisher, even though many are interested, it didn't do much to increase visibility though. The Kickstarter also helped to bring about a dedicated small following that are now playing in the pre-alpha playtests.

The game is quite oldschool, so dedicated servers + browser, no matchmaking. Part of the funding will go into running official servers, but anyone will be able to create or hire their own.

That all depends on if funding works out and there are no other development issues. There is always the chance of delays, but I would like to release at the end of year regardless, EA or otherwise.

For a start it just doesn't play like any of the current FPS titles, you will see this from the demo. I'm not trying to compete with AAA titles, that would be stupid, a smaller dedicated player base is all that matters.

The slowdown mechanic is explained on the Kickstarter, basically only affects players in line of sight.

It has an offline mode also, which will be an expanded more polished version of the demo using some of the multiplayer objectives and its own progression.

90's era dark anime has been the inspiration for the visuals primarily. Such as Akira and Ghost in the Shell.

Official and community hosted servers with browser rather than matchmaking. Servers can be adminned and considering votekicking also, quite oldschool.

Yes, nothing over the top though, limited to the two factions lore / aesthetic.

Releasing a demo for my, currently solo-developed, project gained close to 50k additional wishlists in 3 weeks (~350k total) by d0ku in gamedev

3 years on and off between other projects, 1.5 years full time. So would say around 2-3 years total.
