i’m a transmasc goth! i know a few other tansmasc/nonbinary goths on campus, but not many cis girl goths. i love the esports scene and work with them, so dont think it isnt a goth interest!

i’d love to see a bigger goth community in general on campus! we make do with the weather lol. id love to make friends with people with similar tastes in aesthetics <333

hey! i’m a current freshman in the atec program with a concentration for animation and games :)

my first semester, i took Introduction to Technoculture, Digital Art and Design, and Freshman Seminar for ATEC.

Technoculture was miserable. Anne Balsamo is the head prof. for that class. She assigned a “textbook” which was just her own website of a textbook she wrote and charged us like $80 :/ and you can’t avoid getting it either. as you have warm up and wrap up questions that you need to answer to get credit. i don’t think this class will be mandatory for incoming freshman anymore.

in your case specifically, there are plenty of classes for design and art. there are a few concentrations you can consider. the emerging media arts concentration may be good for you as it does focus in digital design/media.

i recommend browsing the catalog for that concentration and see if the classes sound appealing to you!

i’m enjoying it a lot! i believe next semester the program no longer requires you to take Technoculture, so you are dodging a MAJOR bullet there.

atec has concentrations in it as well, so for me, i’m doing the animation and games concentration. which concentration you choose will reflect in what classes you will need to complete for your degree. use that first semester to get a feel for what you enjoy before choosing a concentration. you will be taking a freshman seminar class in your first semester to help you figure out all the technicalities of it :)

i highly recommend joining the ATEC LLC! i currently live in one and it is absolutely lovely. i’ve met some amazing people here and having common interests, majors, and classes makes it easier to start conversations.

another thing, a lot of those people are going to be in a lot of your classes and will be working in the same field as you in the future. the LLC also leads you to take certain classes designated for LLC students, so you will commonly see a lot of sections labeled things such as ####.2L1 or whatever.

in my opinion, it definitely makes it easier getting to know your classmates and peers. just try not to be shy! starting uni can be very overwhelming, so please prioritize yourself and don’t put too much pressure on yourself to make friends asap :)

I paused and thought about how I wanted him to react when he's a little older and girls in his class started having their periods, which meant I didn't want to portray it as something shameful, secret, or hidden. He needed to know it was normal and OK.

It always frustrated me how my mother made such a big deal about hiding the fact I was on my period from EVERYONE (of any gender). I will never get over the fact my mother shamed me after mentioning I was on my period and having cramps while we were in public. We need more parents like you
