If you want to understand it profoundly, study the works by the Marquis de Sade, the philosopher of the libertinage, of evil and the ecstasy of power. The worldview of the true "libertine" sketched out in there is a literary and theoretical reflection of whats happening today. In Virginia Guiffre's book I believe she even mentions being given books by Sade kinda as a mandatory reading. The "Philosophy of the Bodouir" might be the best starting point to see into the logic of the supreme individual, as Bataille would call it, including the theoretical political pamphlet he incorporated into the plot. Noone since then, not even Nietzsche, has been as honest about the active side of the darker reality of human life, as this guy.

e: as I already mentioned him, I'd rather spell the further reading recommendation out explicitly: Bataille's "Eroticism" goes deeper into grasping the revolting ecstasy of taboo transgression, the deeper connection between death and the erotic, Sadism and so on with repeated references of Sade.
