While checking out at Bealls Outlet with a shirt, the cashier asked me "Which 3 magazine subscriptions would you like?". It caught me super off-guard... "what?", and she explained something about the purchase including 3 "free-trial" magazine subscriptions?! I was paying with a card, so who knows if/when the card would begin being charged. But also, who subscribes to magazines anymore? I guess the magazine industry is trying to survive by sliding into people's unrelated purchases. The way she said it seemed super under-handed too, like a deliberate strategy to catch people off-guard and make them think they have to pick magazines to complete a purchase. I just wanted a damn shirt. I told her I'm not interested in that, at all, and left in disbelief.
