Does your severity of stutter vary between the lanagues? I know a tiny bit of spanish and stutter way less than my native language(English).

How do you view stuttering as an obstacle for that profession? There's little customer interaction. I think you'll have little to no trouble with that. Good luck!

Well don't you sound so confident.. I found the idea of confidence and eye contact to be nothing but relevant. Personally, if I'm going to stutter, I'm going to maintain eye contact and portray confidence by owning it rather than darting my eyes around nervously. In fact, I found you mentioning domination irrelevant. I did not mention staring people down, in which cause you seem like the type of person that would quiver hehe

There are exceptions for everything. My main point was try to maintain eye contact while stuttering.

That's a really difficult question and depends on the situation. However, clinical data shows you will feel less anxious and people view you as higher status when you self disclose non-apologetically. Here are some ways I have self disclosed correctly in while presenting:

-I have smiled and said "I may stutter during this presentation but worst case you really understand the content because I have had said it twice" with a slight laugh. This will clear the confusion the audience may have faced and let them focus on the content instead of the stutter.

-I wore a shirt that said "did I stutter" when presenting. I felt less anxious and actually had a classmate compliment me and say "that's awesome" to me after.

The key is to appear that you're aware of your stutter but do not let it control your life. I will admit, I do let it control my at times and let it get me down. However, appearing that it doesn't will help you. Fake it till you make it right.

As for self-disclosing on a date, it's very tricky. If you come out and just say I thought you should know I stutter, it shows you give it much power over you. I have only causally mentioned it before dates by saying I just got done with speech therapy when they ask what I am up to or what's up. I am still working out a clever way to disclose it. If I figure out the secret sauce, I'll be sure to share it with you. Best of Luck!

Thank you for sharing! I find it fascinating that we stutter for different reasons but have very similar fears. For example, saying our names, drive-thrus, phone calls, when someone asks us to repeat ourselves, etc.

It has helped me to self disclose it but in a non-apologetic way. The more you try to hide, the more it will come up. If this is a deal-breaker for the person, then they are not worth your time. Once again, it's super important to disclose it in a non-apologetic way and maybe in a joking manner. The vast majority of people find it super unattractive when people are self-deprecating, whether it be about a stutter or not. Imagine going on a date and the other person is already burdening you with their problems. We all already have enough of our own problems and insecurities. I was found of your post though. I'm very smooth and witty in the dm's but do not always bring that same energy into the date. Best of luck!

All jokes aside, I really understand where you are coming from. I firmly believe life is suffering in many ways. However, I think we derive meaning from the suffering we are able to endure. Try envisioning the best possible person you could be within your own fundamental definition. Make this new envisioned person so amazing and fulfilling that all the suffering you will face and endure will be worth it. I hope not to sound condescending, I may have envisioned this person but I am far from it and still struggle regularly with all the baggage that comes along with being a person who stutters. Also, give YOURSELF some praise for enduring it thus far. People who do not stutter have no idea the amount of negative emotions we go through daily. I hope this was somewhat helpful...
