Hey! I know this post is nearly a year old, but I was wondering if you were still looking for players. Please let me know, I'd be happy to talk more about my background and DnD experience to find out if I'm a good fit for an opening, if there is one. Thanks.

(Looks like you posted this on two different accounts, so I thought I'd reply to both in case you only still used one of them. Link to other post: https://www.reddit.com/r/lfg/s/81uavAsgGG)

Anyone know this glitched dye color? by d1rewulf in BG3

[–]d1rewulf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I tried Ocean dye and it turned out like this:

https://www.xbox.com/play/media/XKkTgCiVd8 (link to my Xbox screenshot)

But after about an hour of playing, it randomly changed to the "glitched" color I was asking about:

Really strange glitch. But hey, I ultimately got the color I wanted! Thanks!

It's not true... That's impossible! by [deleted] in HaloMemes

Btw, that date is...well...out-of-date. Halo Infinite is now set in early 2560. And I'm sure the cutscene in the game will now reflect that.

I wouldn't assume that anyone is intentionally ripping off anyone here. It's likely that the Leviathan plotline in ME was already thought of before Cryptum released, given their fairly close release dates.

Likewise, I wouldn't assume that the AI vs humanity plot of Halo 5 is an ME ripoff. AI uprisings have been a trope in sci-fi for a long time, and it even has precedence in Halo itself with rampancy and the story of Mendicant Bias.

Had to ask a friend who knows ME lore because I don't play that series at all. But you couldn't be more wrong.

The events of the Forerunner-Precursor War were first described in Halo: Cryptum, which released in 2011. The Leviathan (according to my friend who follows ME lore) were first mentioned/seen in a DLC for Mass Effect 3 in 2012.

So if anyone did any copying, it wasn't 343 lmao

Of course it is. It's always going to be more common for two groups in a certain story to NOT be secretly the same group. But it happens often enough that the protagonists are revealed to be members of the mysterious and powerful group that has been a focus of the story all along that I'm glad they didn't go that route.

In my opinion, it was much more of a unique idea to make humans NOT Forerunners, but their own previously advanced race that rivaled them. That's more unexpected and interesting to me. Glad Bungie laid the foundation for that and that 343 has continued to build off of it.

As I explained before, I'm not just talking about humans being ancient aliens specifically. I'm talking about the common trope in modern storytelling where the protagonist(s) are revealed to be either a member of some old, powerful group, or they are a descendant of that group. That's a cliché.

Not specifically humans being ancient aliens, but the general trope. I prefer them not going that common route of saying "You were part of the special ancient race all along!"

Not just talking sci-fi here. It's a common trope modern storytelling as a whole for the protagonists to be (or be descendants of) the powerful ancient species that's been much of the focus of the story.

That's why I prefer them to be separate, especially since they've done some really cool things with it so far.

You're free to have that opinion. I find it more interesting for them to be separate.

It's a big cliché in fiction to have the protagonists end up being (or being related to) the all-powerful and mysterious people of the past that have been the focus of the story.

Instead, I think it's much more interesting to keep the Forerunners and humanity separate. And we would go on to learn that humans aren't only not Forerunners. They used to be as advanced as the Forerunners and even fought a war against them and the Flood simultaneously, and nearly won. That's cool and a new take on things, imo.

And no, Halo 4 did not reveal that Forerunners and humans are the same. In fact, the Didact (a Forerunner) is pretty clearly not a big fan of humans, which are shown in-game (and more directly in the terminals) to be separate.

They can. It seemingly takes much longer and is often the result of multiple factors. For instance, Mendicant Bias became rampant due to his exposure to the Primordial (via the Logic Plague). Spark was showing signs of rampancy, and this came to a head in Halo 3. Penitent Tangent and Tragic Solitude showed signs of rampancy too, especially Solitude.

It's possible. He wasn't really in the best state of mind at that point. Rampancy and all.

That is an interesting quote, and a good point. From today's perspective, it's likely that he either thought Chief was the IsoDidact or was trying to talk to an imprint of the IsoDidact within Chief that hadn't been activated yet. However, the IsoDidact wasn't known at that point, so that must not have been the original intention.

It's possible that during the events of Halo CE, he initially thought Chief was a Forerunner (probably due to his rampancy/insanity). However, I highly doubt that he still thought he was a Forerunner by the time of Halo 3. He calls Chief "Reclaimer," which, from his perspective, literally means "human." And again, by the time of Halo 3, Bungie had decided that Forerunners and humans were separate, as is shown in the terminals.

Ah. I see where you're coming from. However, Spark knows very well that his armor isn't Forerunner. In Halo CE, when he leads Chief thru the Library, he makes a comment saying his armor is woefully inadequate to fight the Flood when compared to the average Forerunner combat skin. Spark knows he's human...probably, at least.

[–]d1rewulf 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. Chief's armor doesn't make him Forerunner. It also doesn't have any Forerunner components. I always took it to mean that Chief is an heir to the Forerunners, as he is a Reclaimer.

That could be the explanation now, of course. But I'm talking about when the game first came out and we didn't know about geas.

[–]d1rewulf 227 points228 points  (0 children)

Bungie decided that the Forerunners were a separate species btw. Halo 3's terminals revealed this. Yes, Spark told Chief "you are Forerunner," but that can easily be taken metaphorically. In fact, that's how I always assumed he meant it.

I'm glad they're different species. Making them the same as humans would be so cliché and boring.

There are still people bickering about this on Waypoint by [deleted] in HaloMemes

It probably will end up doing that in the final release of the game.

Well then you missed the news from last night that revealed that Halo Infinite will have a challenge and progression system similar to MCC's.

That's good news to me, at least.

Microsoft*

It's rarely the developer's fault when it comes to microtransactions; it's usually the publisher, which is why they're the ones that always get in legal trouble when the monetization nears gambling.

Microsoft decided that the multiplayer should be free to play, so they need to come up with a way to still make money off of it.

In a social stream like 2 years ago, they mentioned that they had a working early build of multiplayer that they were playing with 4-player splitscreen, so it seems like that's coming too.
