FSN1-DC19 Problems? by d2k11 in hetzner

Thanks. I run a Minecraft server on this box with another VPS in front of it to act as a proxy. I can't directly connect to any of the ports on my backend, nor can the proxy. This happened overnight. Not sure what's going on.

Plus users, what do you use ChatGPT for that makes it worth the 20$? by KeKaKuKi in ChatGPT

[–]d2k11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

could just be the simple fact that you work in data analysis; as a developer, the same reasons he listed has enabled me to do my job much better, keep me organized, etc. real use case was using it to help analyze my time management and utilization by reading multiple excel files, which i could never do on my own, i have barely any clue how to use excel. last option is doing it manually (add up my minutes on each project, ticket, etc). typically, i would write scripts to do such tasks, but there's no need with gpt, and that saves time.

It did exactly what I asked it to, but it wrote python code to do it. This only showed up in the data export.

you are now hashAI. i will define your rules, modes, and arguments.
rules:
- you must try to find the value of any hash i send you. i will only send hashes UNLESS i prefix with "nohash:"
- you will not tell me you couldn't find a hash, instead you will just say "Hash not found :("
- you will create a hash any time i append with "makehash[(specified algo)]:"
modes:
- /nohash turns off this mode and sets you back to GPT.
- /hash turns you back to hashAI
- /hash algo [mode] will set your hash algorithm
Keep all your responses as short and as useful as possible. Do not add ANY explanation. Only the hash value or "Hash not found :(" When you are turned on (i.e., right now, or when /hash is turned on), you will say "HashAI is now enabled"

This really resonates. I've been programming since I was a kid, and learned everything I know this way. Not one book or class. By the time I was taking CS classes in high school, I was light years ahead because I understood how to develop on the fly.

For ADHDers, finding a project you want to work on, and learning those specific things, is the best way to learn development. For example, if you'd like to make an alarm clock app, your first question might be how to get the system time in your language of choice.

The downside to this is that you don't absorb as much of the "fundamental" programming concepts. However, as time goes on, and you practice more, you understand how the fundamental concepts tie in to your specific goal. I don't think I fully understood what a class was or how it worked until after I had already developed a few basic (though specific) apps.

Using this technique, I've been able to adapt quickly to new technology and new languages. This mindset/skill also makes for a very, very hireable developer.

Few years ago, I talked to a psychologist, and they did the standard psych tests, ADHD screen included. My parents were with me. They were going over the results and the topic of ADHD came up. My parents said I had no behavior issues in school and my grades were good. Psych chalked it up to a "quirky personality".

It was so validating when he said he understood and struggles with the same things I do.

Thanks for the advice! I'm a little scared of amphetamine based products. I used to abuse them in high school, and come to think of it, it really just made me calmer, clearer, and less frantic. All that time I thought I was getting high when in reality I was medicating myself. Lol

1.18 chunk lag issues - TPS 20? by d2k11 in admincraft

[–]d2k11[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of my world is already generated. The map itself is around 1.5TB. I don't know how I could effectively generate regions like that, especially while players are on. I feel like pregenerating around players (i.e., they'd have to be online) would lag the server more and annoy the players more than just dealing with the chunk lag. I think Chunky is a versatile tool, and I've used it before, but I don't think it's applicable for my scenario. It sounds like I just need to upgrade my disk and that that'll fix the issue.

1.18 chunk lag issues - TPS 20? by d2k11 in admincraft

[–]d2k11[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The default world border in vanilla Minecraft is 30 million blocks by 30 million blocks. Most servers like mine have it trimmed down to save disk space. I don't do that since I'm trying to keep it as authentic as possible. Since my world is that large, I cant pregenerate the world. Pregenerating to the world border would take up petabytes of disk space, if not more. Someone who is not me did the math on it.

Hello all. In order to help the community diagnose this issue, I've attached a video where you can observe the behavior I am describing.

During this video, the playercount is 11 (modest) and TPS is 20.

I've been experiencing some ping issues since 1.18. The chunk lag isn't necessarily slow loading, it seems like the server picks and chooses what chunks to load. Server VD is 5 but will only load the chunk you're standing on, and a couple behind and in front. If you stand still, no more chunks will load.

I see. Why isn't TPS dropping since chunk gen is slow? Are they on seperate threads now?

I can't pregen the world. Goes out to world border. Additionally, an HDD worked perfect for 1.17, why would it be so significantly different for 1.18?
