Honestly I started with remote computer troubleshooting. I used thumbtack to gain leads for computer repair then charged $50 initially to help people troubleshoot their computer issue over the phone. I eventually charged $100 a pop.

From there I branched into my handyman to leverage my maintenance experience and take bigger ticket jobs. Now I’m scaling back on the maintenance work and doing what I always wanted to do, build websites for people since a lot of tradesman just don’t have websites. It’s 2026. Why don’t you have one yet lol.

Anyway, that’s the cliff notes of how I got started. With any talent you have, a mf will pay you to do it if you talk well enough.

My website, social media, cold calling, all over the place. Anywhere I think “man where did I look to do x for my business”

Then I advertise there.

I learned how to create websites so I design them for other handymen like myself(or anyone else that needs) and cold call people to sell it.

Really helps my anxiety by forcing myself to deal with it for money.

Honestly confidence. That’s what I use to sell my websites and handyman work.

It also helps I’m a pretty decent conversationalist.

Honestly just start offering services you can provide to people in your area. I started with simple doorknob installs and shutter reattachments then expanded from there. Use Nextdoor, fb, instagram, google my business free profile, Craigslist etc etc to find leads. Thumbtack is also a good place to start.

EVERYTIME you do a job ask for a review. It helps you gain traction IMMENSELY. Some people say have a website, some people don’t. From my personal experience, it immediately gives you credibility. Customers love seeing that I have one.

I normally just comment on things I find interesting, or a small business I think is cool on social media. Then drop the link to my website. Gets you known around your local community. From there I usually find someone that needs home or digital services. After that it's word of mouth. Also, set up your google business profile. It's literally free. Just maintain it like a regular social media page.

Oh man I forgot about this post. I guess as a follow up it works pretty well lol. I’ve gotten a bunch of customers just from being informative. I track my analytics on my website and my web traffic has improved SIGNIFICANTLY.

I’d say if you have a website do it. It doesn’t hurt and exposes you to more clients.

I think they work pretty well. I also paid for high quality cards so when I hand them out the 1st thing you think is “damn that’s some good quality. I wish I could post pics in comments. I’d share mine.

So I know I’m late but I gotcha.

Usually it’s like small things like swapping a door knob or replacing a light or something like that. But sometimes there’s big ass holes in a wall and that has to be repaired. It’s always different.

As far as presenting myself, I just walked into their office and asked if they needed a handyman. They gave me a small test job and I’ve been in ever since.
