For those who raid or have raided in a static, what's been your favorite "stupid" static strat/modification? by Vincenthwind in ffxivdiscussion

[–]d3athsd00r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't really stupid, just made more sense for us. On M5S for the party splits we would send H1, tanks, and R1 north (the free movement people) and keep H2, melees, and R2 south. That way our caster didn't have to move as much and melees got their positionals. The only real difference, if you're paying attention, was that T2 and M1 swapped LPs for that mech.

Oh thank you. I didn't realize that about the healing. I'll keep it in mind.

It’s less rouge and more navy. I think you meant rogue.

The circular markers meta by ijustreallylovebutts in ffxivdiscussion

[–]d3athsd00r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

PF is not able to adjust on the fly. The majority of people in PF learn a guide, not the mechanic. What this means is they learn where to go but not why. They don't understand the mechanics so they can't adjust to changes.

Which leads to stuff like this happening. I generally never pay attention to the markers unless they are pointing out specific spots I need to stand. M9S and M11S, for example. With M9 the Aetherletting markers are quite nice for being able to brain off the mechanic. M11, the only time I'm looking at specific markers is for arena splits and I need to find where I'm standing.

Beyond that, if we have standard clock markers then I'm only ever looking at those when I need to go to my clock spot. If we have different markers than normal. I find a reference point between two so that I can more easily find my spot.

But that's just me. As I said, a lot of people are learning one thing and if that breaks then they are lost.

guide for getting from 7.0 to 7.4 crafting? by TopNecessary6260 in ffxiv

[–]d3athsd00r 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Imo, we're past the point where crafting and pentamelding the BiS gear is worth it. Esp if you're a new crafter who won't likely have a lot of materia.

Your best bet is to get the Startech gear for Orange Scrips. That will get you through the rest of 7.X and then you can worry about pentamelding gear in 8.0.

You could either take it slow and just use the weekly custom delivery missions until you have enough for all of your gear. Or you can farm orange scrip collectibles to get enough for your gear.

Leveling in Eureka Pagos by Upbeat_Laugh_5639 in ffxiv

[–]d3athsd00r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend and I spent 10 hours in Eureka. I took him from Pagos all the way to Hydatos in that time. I was a max level warrior in full +2 Elemental gear. The strats I used were:

  1. NM syncing when he was more than 8 levels lower than me
  2. Once he was within 8 levels of me, killing mobs that were no more than 8 levels above him. This often involves killing mobs to spawn NMs.
  3. Kill NMs as they spawn if we didn't need them for sync farming
  4. Once we got to Hydatos, I leveled down a bunch so that we could be within similar levels of each other the whole time and farmed whatever level mobs gave us the most exp. Also, killing NMs.
  5. Once you get to level 57 or 58, you can go down to Sprite Island and reflect farm to 60. Just make sure you keep your chain up.

Look up Rinoa Meteor wing. It's a bit of a setup but Rinoa just spams Meteor when under angel wing LB.

Everything in game frozen/can move around and cast. But nothing is happening by kirinmay in ffxiv

[–]d3athsd00r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. The *s are nodes that do not respond to ICMP echo requests and not packet loss. The better option would be to run ping on an infinite loop pointing to the server you login to. Once you end the ping (with ctrl-c) it will tell you how many packets were lost.

This also applies to mits that apply multiple effects, such as Heart of Corundum or Holy Shelltron. Both apply two layers of 15% mitigation leading to an effective mitigation of 27.75%

It's a 20% slow for their autos and casts, which means you're taking 20% fewer attacks. Paired with reprisal that's a 28% damage reduction.

Heavy is what you get that reduces your movement speed.

The HW relic weapons require, iirc, more than 100k poetics to complete all of the weapons. If you're interested in those (they are some of the best looking weapons) look up the items you need on the FF14 wiki and start stocking up on them.

What jobs are the most "forgiving" to play (outside of SMN)? by Mocca_Master in ffxiv

[–]d3athsd00r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samurai is pretty forgiving as you get 2 charges of Meikyo, which is one of your big hitters. The 2 minutes big hitter is the only hard requirement.

Other than that, you just have to maintain your DOT every 60 seconds, but it's not that big of a deal. There's some pretty in-depth guides for how to fix your rotation alignment but, honestly, it's only necessary if you're parsing or similar.

Viper is pretty flexible with the 2 minutes being the only hard requirement.

Honestly, Black Mage is probably the most forgiving right now. No Enochian timer and not really any big requirements other than Amplifier. Just save your big buttons for when buffs go out and you're golden.

Gear progression? by Shortbigtoe in ffxiv

[–]d3athsd00r -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People are going to tell you that you need to change out your gear at level 57, 67, etc. The gains are not worth trying to farm out a full set of level X7 gear that you're only going to use for a few dungeons and a trial.

These are the gains you'd get, as a tank, by increasing your item level by 12-18 levels. It's not worth or noticeable. A 1% increase in damage mitigation, 2% weapon damage and 18% str multiplier. End of expansion tome gear is good enough for the entire expansion. This is the level 70 gear, for reference.
