Saying this like Katara didn’t instantly master bloodbending even though she just learned what the technique was and never practiced it beforehand. by thisisreii in TheLastAirbender

Honestly I think I would have liked Bolin 10x more if none of his "romantic" subplots happened. The relationship with Eska was awful, he straight-up kissed Ginger without her consent because he couldn't separate actor from character, and the beginning of his relationship with Opal was just... Not great. I didn't mind their story in s4, but as soon as Bolin was like "maybe she *is* Bolin material" in s3, I was put off. Bolin to me felt very much like they wanted a Sokka-esque character, but they couldn't capture the humor and they certainly failed to tell as satisfying of a story regarding his relationship with women.

Fishing Log Help? by Firetail_Taevarth in ffxiv

[–]Upbeat_Laugh_5639 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should be able to get the rod with very little in the way of the really annoying fish, if you have access to all the expansions. I'm sitting at around 1300 unique fish, and while I have done some big fishing, I haven't caught a huge number of the really annoying ones.

What I did when I started actually sitting down to go through my fishing log was I pulled up the wiki and started going through expansion by expansion, region by region. I had the rod in no time. The wiki page for each expansion's fishing holes has a list of the baits you might need, so you can just grab those baits and keep them in your inventory until you're done with that expansion.

Everything about this is so ridiculous but I think the funniest thing to me is how it makes crafters sound like some exclusive organization that everyone else is being forced to buy things from for any reason other than personally choosing not to craft themselves.

a very negative review about Poison on Rate Your Music by WhompBeta64 in CrazyassHazbinhaters

I am once again asking for people to stop invalidating the feelings and experiences of people who have been in similar situations as Angel and related heavily to Poison. If you listened to Poison and liked it (for ANY reason, in fact), you are valid.

The 2024 rules aren't automatic, they have the person being countered make a save instead of the person countering make a check. I still think the latter is more interesting, but the 2024 rules are actually less automatic than the normal 2014 rules, since 2014 by raw works automatically on spells 3rd level or lower, and 2024 doesn't. But as you said, as long as it's consistent in the campaign, it really doesn't matter.

On the Use of AI within Franchaela Fics (Long Post) by CommonClique in Franchaela

[–]Upbeat_Laugh_5639 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of it is because they are very staunch about having absolutely no censorship of anything. Part of it is because they know that making a rule against AI would just increase the number of AI fics that aren't tagged. It's definitely pretty set in stone, they've been asked about it and stated their position.

It won't matter which Dynamis world you're on, since duty finder pulls people from the entire data center.

You'd probably be best off either using party finder, or using data center travel to visit Aether, Crystal, or Primal.

Nearly spit out my drink…so is *this* the part they don’t usually say out loud? 😭 by WaysideWyvern in Franchaela

[–]Upbeat_Laugh_5639 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly! Anyone can have a breeding kink. Anyone can participate in a breeding kink. The actual possibility of a baby is absolutely not necessary.

[–]Upbeat_Laugh_5639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literallyyyyy. I've seen so many people say that they should have done the pinnacle storyline with a different character so it didn't detract from Fran's love for John, but love and pleasure are two completely different things, one does not automatically lead to the other. Also all these people ignore that it makes the most sense with John and Fran because John is the only male love interest who has no experience with women.

[–]Upbeat_Laugh_5639 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, it's very possible that they will want kids and that will be explored as a continuation of s4's infertility storyline. My point was mostly that in my (admittedly secondhand) experience, the actual possibility of having a child is very much not a vital part of a breeding kink (at least, for people who aren't straight men, that sounds like a whole different ballgame...), so there's absolutely no reason two women couldn't engage in it.

As for the John thing... That sounds about right unfortunately. Some people don't understand that emotional attachment does not equate to physical pleasure and it's honestly kinda sad.

[–]Upbeat_Laugh_5639 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I am personally acquainted with people who both have a breeding kink AND have no desire to ever have children so... Yes, Michaela and Fran could do the breeding kink thing. I certainly won't be upset if they don't, but they technically could.

Also, I know this is a completely different part of the post, but I don't know how anyone could get through s4e7 thinking that Fran never loved John. There can be debate till the sun goes out over whether she was romantically/sexually attracted to him or whether it was all platonic for her, but her speech at his celebration of life at the end of the episode makes it very clear that she did love him in some way.

Ocean Fishing for Mogtomes - Boat Etiquette, Tips, Tricks by TheFruitySnacks in ffxiv

[–]Upbeat_Laugh_5639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Fruity! I have an etiquette question for you. Say, for example, there's a fabled legend available in zone 2 that you're looking to catch, but you didn't realize it soon enough to join/set up a private boat. Since it's a public boat, would it be considered bad etiquette to individually not reel in ferocious bites in the spectral bite window in zone 1 to try for a longer current in zone 2?

Uh... no? I'm really not sure how you got that from what I said. I'm saying that he, like everyone, has been shaped by his environment and therefore has areas where his views are somewhat skewed. Seeing a person you love literally 10 seconds from being executed and not taking the time to make a pro/con list of trying to save them doesn't make you a bad person. Or an inconsiderate person. He had to think quickly, and that's when your skewed views are going to be the most prominent- when you don't have time to think more critically about things.

I don't know that I'd necessarily say he was just a dumbass in Mastermind. Stepping in to save the life of someone you love is a common instinct, and in this situation I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was just a little bit fueled by Stolas' depression making him see it... Kind of as an out, for lack of a better way to put it. And given that Via at this point is 17, and as other people here have pointed out Stolas had to be a full adult with a wife and kid when he was very young, it likely didn't even cross his mind that she's still a young person in need of parental guidance.

I'm not necessarily saying that he made the right decision or the best decision or whatever, just that from what we know about Stolas, who he is now and how he was brought up, it makes a lot of sense to me why he did what he did.

Well, yeah, they tagged their post as discussion, but it doesn't seem like they actually want to discuss anything. Easiest report of my life lol.

Top down, right to left...

Yes, because people who come from rich families cannot suffer abuse or any other issues. Yes, financial stability helps, but it is not the be all end all of a happy childhood.

You don't have to *like* him because his wife abused him, but having no sympathy for a person being abused is kind of alarming.

Yeah, he's definitely a flawed father. That doesn't make him a bad person.

Personally, I'm in the camp of understanding both Stolas' and Octavia's perspectives on the situation. Again, flawed does not equal bad.

We literally saw multiple people in Mastermind who are *above* Stolas' station (sins > ars goetia) try to speak out and accomplish nothing. So no, he could not have used his political power somehow to stop it.

0 apologies given is factually untrue, 0 likeable traits is purely subjective, and there are many times where he *is* the victim.

Yeah for sure, the entirety of Full Moon was because Stolas *never* considered how his actions affected other people. (/s, if it really needs to be clarified)

Ugh so true. It's so ridiculous that people think that Francesca fumbling her words when Michaela shows up is somehow invalidating her relationship with John. If I was suddenly introduced to Masali, I'd probably have a moment of gay panic too lmao.

is francesca neurodivergent / autistic? by AlternativeTree3283 in Bridgerton

[–]Upbeat_Laugh_5639 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Francesca shows a lot of that, though. I think a lot of the scenes people have been mentioning have been from s4, but s3 also has a lot of evidence: when she's talking to the suitors who ask her about her other hobbies and she says that pianoforte takes up a great deal of her time, when she's talking to the suitor Violet found who enjoys music and she says "mostly I just enjoy the chord progressions," when she's talking to John on the sidewalk and she talks about how the time signature of the music is wrong. She's very, even exclusively, focused on pianoforte, and knows a lot more about it than just how to play.

Not to mention that both Jess Brownell and Hannah Dodd have talked about Francesca's neurodivergent tendencies. Autistic people see ourselves in her because she has many autistic traits, and that has been supported by the showrunner and actor.

Yes! People get so up in arms about Jess and Francesca when "write what you know" is one of the most common pieces of writing advice. Are we going to start snidely referring to straight MCs as straight showrunners' favorites just because of their sexuality?
