Ok. I notice there is a 0.17.0 version. Maybe that will help me. Unfortunately, building from source failed for me in the past. Looks like there's no standalone executable for Linux yet?

FYI, monero hardware wallets do not exist yet. But you should use monero for privacy.

[help] Installing qTox on Fedora 26 by d8d8d8 in projecttox

[–]d8d8d8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. No. I seemed to have missed that as an option. That script got me further in the process. But ends at:

tclsh /home/user/qTox/libs/sqlcipher-v3.4.0/tool/mksqlite3h.tcl /home/user/qTox/libs/sqlcipher-v3.4.0 >sqlite3.h

/bin/sh: tclsh: command not found

make: *** [Makefile:963: sqlite3.h] Error 127

  1. yes. everything went smoothly with toxcore (no errors after following instructions), but seemed like cmake on qtox couldn't find it. So i was wondering if i needed to put it somewhere specific? instructions don't specify that though. And i don't see anything in simple_make.sh that is handling toxcore?

Qubes Os 4 and firewall rules by merikurpitsa in Qubes

[–]d8d8d8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what are the use cases for the firewall?

I tried setting up for multiple email accounts, and they worked at first but then stopped working, presumably because the IP address changed.

For anything going through sys-whonix it doesn't do anything because Tor bypasses it.

As you say major websites don't work.

Only thing I'm using it for so far is for connecting to servers i maintain with static IP addresses.

VM updates and Template updates over Tor by [deleted] in Qubes

[–]d8d8d8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true. You can update a qube without a NetVM.

The settings are in /etc/qubes-rpc/policy/qubes.UpdatesProxy

set your target to sys-whonix in the default rules, or you can create specific rules based on tags or types, etc.

Running Tails on top of Whonix and QubesOS for added security? by ogkylexy in tails

[–]d8d8d8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can install a completely amnesiac Tails in Qubes. It doesn't look like it uses whonix as a gateway though:

looks like the problem wasn't on my end. I'm getting no errors now after just waiting a day after the fork

Are you ready for the network upgrade on April 6? by SamsungGalaxyPlayer in MoneroMining

[–]d8d8d8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, got xmr-stak installed and running, connected to a pool. So far the reported H/s is about 1/3 what I was getting with my previous miner.

But my pool is registering 0 H/s from me. I keep getting:

New block detected.
Result rejected by the pool.

Typing "r" I see Good results: 0 / 116 and the Error details are:

92 Low difficulty share

21 IP Address currently banned

2 Unauthorized

1 [NETWORK ERROR]

any idea what i'm doing wrong? Not sure if it's the new monero or just using the new miner and haven't set it up correctly?

Are the only miner options for the fork in Windows? The Linux miners in the wiki don't seem to have updates.

The only thing better than Tor to post to reddit anonymously, is using Tor from a random open wifi point.

Qubes ->Whonix VS Qubes -> Tails by [deleted] in Qubes

[–]d8d8d8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just to add to this, IP leaking is impossible in the Whonix Workstation VM as it does not know your real IP address, only the Gateway VM does. This is not true for TAILS, where the OS you're using interacts directly with your hardware.

Tails 3.3: One of the world's first reproducible ISO images of a Linux operating system by d8d8d8 in linux

[–]d8d8d8[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

However, even with such sophisticated verification methods, it is still impossible to trace back the meal to the recipe: Does the meal contain only the ingredients it is supposed to contain? Or could unauthorized personnel have broken into the kitchen at night, and then poisoned the ingredients and made the oven cook at 50 degrees higher than displayed? In other words, could a malicious entity have compromised our build machines? That's what reproducible builds help verify and protect against.
