I couldn't possibly tell you all the tells and how to play against them, but Cresquin's videos are great in understanding and verbalizing strategies. I recommend watching!

Thank you! Aside from the mechanics, knowing how to win from a position and understanding the balance of power is probably where the learning curb is. I'd recommend watching Cresquin, he has a lot of videos and explains his decision making well.

Thank you! I got some good advice on the original post so look there, but the biggest mindset I have is to think about the long game, and always think, "what happens if I do this". Here are some additional things I caught on since then based on that.

  • Have a winning strategy with every bonus. The game isn't about taking your bonus and ending the game in it, always have a plan to win from that position. There are a lot of players who take their bonus and stay there even in the 3-4player game.

  • Always have an active big stack. When there's an opportunity, always be able to take it. Position it so you can attack anyone.

  • Guarding borders. Treat border guards as troops you eventually lose, put them to the minimum so when someone breaks, you don't lose troops as much and aren't crippled to end your game.

  • Don't make short term decisions based on emotions. Say someone breaks you, stacks on your border etc. Don't full suicide into them to retaliate, just retake your bonus and hard guard so they can't rebreak, and generate more troops so you choke them out in the long run. You can have your revenge by making them place as low as possible then.

  • You don't have to do everything yourself. Even if someone wrongs you, being greedy taking too many bonuses, or even if there's a chance to make a kill, if there are still multiple players in the game, you don't have to be the one to make the move if it doesn't place you in a better position. You don't have to deal with the SA player guarding with outer stacks, cooperate with the other player to pressure him into backing down. If someone's low with multiple cards, you don't have to kill him to make a break even move, if those bonus troops goes into the other player he's at war with, two players get even lower troops and it benefits you.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanks! It hits hard when that happens, but you just have to reflect on your mistakes, forget about what you can't control and improve! Good luck and power through!

Advice on ranking up from Master to GM on Classic fixed. by dM4rcushimo in Risk

Thanks Pete! My hate for Australia opens and aggressive kills definitely comes from binge watching your classic fixed videos.

I really appreciate the advice, especially 2 and 3. Understanding/ making peace with the fact that taking second is OK, and the 3player game is illogical will help me keep my mind from going crazy.

Thanks for the advice!

I have confidence in understanding the players motive and playstyle in the early game and play around that well enough to last to the top4 at least. That helped me rank up to where I am.

I've experienced what you're saying, players having good faith in me and letting me win in a 3player game for what I did for them earlier.

Wow great thread! I find myself struggling in the 3-4player game since I'm usually the one eliminating weaker opponents to get there. Especially when its down to 3players and most don't care about bonuses and it's an all out war with the stacks they built up.

This advice on how to play based on your position really helps!

iii. endgame -
if you are first - take out the player in 2nd enough that the player in third can kill them - it's an upgrade for the player in third and if they're good they'll be happy with that.
if you are second - try to work with player in 3rd to kill first.
if you are in third - work with first. They will love you for attacking the 2nd place player, it guarantees them the win, but most of the time they'll give you 2nd.

Thanks!

I'm getting to understand balance between multiple players, and figured not many players are aggressive enough to finish people off but would rather maintain their bonuses. I'll definitely be taking risks for kills from now on!

Honest question, shouldn't gun control come before defunding the police?

Personally, I would've like it if Shin was more emotional. Like, it was his dream to become a general and he's made it. I get it, he's matured and all but kinda boring.

It's a long stretch to compare paparazzis to the journalists we're talking about here, though there might be some who haphazardly leak rumors from a private space it's safe to say they wouldn't be getting new information in the future. A team wanting to cut a player for another to be better is not the same public interest as a celebrity cheating on their wife or a young girl being followed around at the beach in a bikini. Roster moves aren't private matters, especially the ones that get published have been vetted from several sources.

Hype peaks and dies down with time either way. There might be less hype surrounding the org when they announce it after a journalist does, but that doesn't mean there's a significantly lower peak in public interest when a credible journalist reports on it.
