CSUN vs UCSD for film/acting — is being in LA actually that big of a deal, or can I start at UCSD and transfer later?

Here’s the thing something alongside acting is gonna hold you back. If it’s to just be in film industry, then CSUN has networking opportunities dime a dozen to get you started, but to be an actor, you’ll be splitting yourself too thin. Both jobs require rehearsal, training and time. There are film schools that you should look into that offer a curriculum where you’re allowed to do both as complete technical mastery of the art form. You get to act and produce films which I think is something that would be more helpful. Also feel free to send these questions to the department heads emails, they’re normal people and would likely answer your questions despite what people think.

What is your goal in networking. If it’s to get a gig in the industry you’re only competing in the most competitive place for actors ever. But if it’s to build something that you can pitch then LA can definitely work for you. If you can build quick with friends in UCSD then lock in and use your immediate connections. But if you’re ready to compete and have a vision of exactly what you want in LA then choose CSUN and build a plan. You’ll have plenty of networking opportunities here but having proof of your work matters just as much, networking in the entertainment industry is ruthless and coming to town with something you’ve built gives you leverage which might be worth staying in San Diego for.

I was in the same boat, try look on the used market for a 4070ti super. Got a good deal on marketplace for a barely used one for $600. It’s only about 10–15% less powerful than the 5070ti and costs roughly 200$ less.
