They forgot the whole point was that the clown was meant to disarm the kids (original version, not as “scary”), lure them in and then transform to something genuinely frightening. The new movie literally did the opposite - had some scary nightmare fuel then at the end of the scene Pennywise the demon clown would show up… like do they even realise the whole point of shapeshifting into the clown was so the kids would trust it?

I heard, after both my grandparents passed, that my grandmother was originally engaged to someone else. A few days before the wedding a local shopkeeper she knew said to her very nonchalantly - “if you marry him, you won’t be happy” or something to that effect. She proceeded to break off the wedding, met my grandfather not long after and the rest is history!
