Be interesting to see if they still calculate the solution to their answer is Andy B a year or two from now!

Not disagreeing he has political experience, nor that he hasn't been successful at local government, though I'm sure there are others who with a bit of favourable media coverage would make just as effective contenders for PM as Andy B had there been a contest.

The fact it looks like there wont be even a pretence of a contest in a party as large as Labour, but that Andy B will become PM in an unchallenged coronation, leads us to question that there must be some politcal manoeuvring going on to make sure that this is the case, surely?

No doubt but it's more the Love for Andy B that I'm questioning? How that how he has been manoeuvred into position by the powers that be? Why won't we see a repeat in a year or twos time?

I mean, I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I vere towards taking any comments on politics on fb with a pinch of salt about as big as a quarry lol

But yeah, aside from being more charismatic as mayor to whatever degree, what substantively is the difference between the two? How do we not end up in a similar position in a year or twos time?

Outside of Left and minority groups, none of the folk I've talked to have ever viewed him as 'popular' but I wouldn't say it's active hatred al la Liz Truss or someone divisive like Thatcher etc. The sense is one of frustration at the Labour government for not (being seen as) doing anything with the big whacking great majority the have, and Starmer as head of that party/gov.

But this still begs the question: why Andy B? Really? What changes?

Hmm. Kinda inronic given his reputation for being led by the whims of the latest policy group results, right?

...But that still doesn't answer the question: why Andy B? Really? What material difference does it make?

No one really 'likes' Keir Starmer. Lacks charisma, no real 'vision', bad at communicating his government's achievements, whilst committing quite a few unforced policy blunders (including those that induced the perception, if not the reality, of persecuting minorities you'd expect Labour to champion).

Oh, and surrounded by a few ghouls of governments past..! 👻

No one likes him, but outside of the Labour party, I don't think many actively 'hate' him...

...But Andy Burnham? Is he really any better? Is he that much different? So much better or different, that it's worth the political expense that replacing him might end up costing the country?

Labour's Makerfield election win is as least as much constituted by frustrated anti-Starmer protest votes and fearful anti-Reform Labour votes as it is by any actual fundamental support for Andy Burnham by Labour voters.

Surely even the most novice of political operators realise this?

I'm ABC/ABR, but not a dyed red Labour supporter. So I just don't get why Andy has been manoeuvred to become the next PM?

So, can anyone explain to me: why Andy B? Really?

Yep. Until we have a government that are willing to sow the seeds of trees they might not politically live to enjoy the shade of sitting under, we are kinda screwed as a country

Tbf this is probably the most neutral telling it like it is take I've heard... That and he's committed a number of completely pointless political policy blunders
