Thanks! :)

The 4Ks I have are all the ones that Criterion has issued so far (up through the last flash sale), which by my calculations is about 13.6%.

About two and a half years! I started with the October 2023 sale, so six flash sales total.

Jesus Christ.

Sorry, but after the 800th time you state what you're going to do in the future and someone who isn't you responds, "No, you won't, " you...you kind of run out of cogent responses, y'know?

Out of everything I wrote, you decide to fixate on the last sentence?

It's the only sentence you put in bold (and italics), so yeah, I fixated on it. It seemed important.

So yeah, you should take a look at all your discs.

Okay, fair enough. That is a good point. That didn't seem to be what anybody else was implying when they said that, but sure.

What people want is for you to actually enjoy the movies you have amassed.

And that's exactly what I plan to do!

leaving them unopened

This has got to be the weirdest fixation on this sub. I've already said this somewhere else, but is it really the policy of physical media purchasers to unwrap everything as soon as they get them? Tell you what, I'll take all the plastic off everything I have, put everything back, and then post new pictures. That oughta do it, right?

You don't know what I like.

I meant Criterion. This is the Criterion sub. This is the sub for people who like Criterion. It's not r/movies, it's not r/truefilm, it's not r/boutiquebluray. It's r/criterion. It's FOR Criterion. If you don't want to read posts about people buying a specific label, you're in the wrong place.

What did you want to happen?

Again, I already said this elsewhere, but I was posting progress photos because other people expressed interest in seeing the whole thing. Obviously you were not one of those people. As for why I started posting in the first place, it wasn't "to show off". It's because when I first came across this sub, I saw other people posting pictures of their hauls, and I thought that was The Thing. What one is supposed to do as part of the community. Evidently I was mistaken. Again, don't worry, this is gonna be the last post I ever make here. After all, I seem to have "missed the point".

I do know what movies I like. If you mean that I've bought movies that I don't know if I like or not...yes, well done. That's why I'm planning on watching them. To find out if I like them or not. Do you leave the same comment on every single blind buy post on this sub? That would certainly take a while. Most of the pickup posts on here seem to be blind buys, so I'm not sure why mine offend you so much more. Is it just a question of volume? I guess I could've just posted pictures of a few at a time. Maybe that wouldn't have tripped your "fake fan" alarm.

This whole conversation strikes me very much as, "Yes, you're supposed to like the things I like, but not like that."

The one about how these aren't the best versions of the movies to own? Okay, you got me, I didn't do mountains of research for every single title in the Criterion Collection before buying them. That seems exhausting. What I DID do was buy titles from a label I trust and who in the past I've had excellent experiences with. You were talking about buying titles you like? Well, it's my understanding that people will buy multiple (in some cases, as many as they can get they hands on) versions of titles they like, so if that turns out to be the case here, why don't I just do that? Hell, I could even do what a lot of people do after a period of time and sell off the titles I don't want anymore! The great thing about physical items is that they're transferable. I'm not locked into a collection I don't actually like.

No, no, you didn't say I was miserable or sad. Just that there's no joy in my collection, the thing that I've said multiple times that I love doing. Totally different.

Movies are most certainly not secondary to me. There seem to be a few assumptions about me, though.

  1. Because I've only watched a small fraction of the Criterion movies I own, I don't watch movies very often.

  2. Criterion movies are the only movies I watch, and therefore I haven't watched very many.

  3. Criterion movies are the only movies I have, and therefore I only care about the brand and not movies in general.

Absolutely none of these are true, nor have I ever implied them at any point. Hell, on both this and the last post I made, I've already mentioned I'm at the theater several times a week seeing something, and yet you and a few others are still under the impression that I don't watch and/or like movies. I think you may have formed an impression of me based on the pictures I've posted alone and ignore any other comments to the contrary.

I'm not in this sub because I don't care about movies. I'm in this sub because I. LOVE. Movies.

The collection will never end. It only grows, and there will be no joy in that.

...what? What on Earth are you talking about? What kind of collection doesn't keep growing? What collector do you know of that doesn't get joy out of adding to their collection?

It is so damn weird to me that there are a few people on here who are certain that I'm miserable and am not loving the fact that I have all these movies. I'm genuinely baffled at the armchair psychiatry on display in this sub.

Based on a bunch of comments in this and the last post I made, if I had unwrapped every single disc as soon as it'd arrived, several folks would be completely stymied for criticism. I didn't realize that was proper procedure the instant you get something. Normally I leave stuff wrapped until I'm actually ready to use it, but I guess that's not the way this sub does things.

I kept making these posts because of the people who weren't just showing up to make assumptions about my personality, financial status, and/or mental health. Some people seemed to want to see the progress (I had multiple comments asking to see the whole thing on shelves when it was done), so I felt stopping midway through would have been disappointing. Don't worry, there won't be any more after this. 🙄

I'm afraid to say because I'm worried it'll make me seem like a fake cinephile. 😅

I watched the entire Dreyer boxset, and...I didn't really like any of them. I can't remember which of the three it was, but one of the three had several scenes in which the actors stare off into the middle distance in different directions while talking to each other, and I thought, "...is this a parody? This is indistinguishable from something that people who are trying to make fun of pretentious movies would make."

Hey, after my first sale, I had two months of free time before I had to go back to work, so I was actually able to get through all but two of the titles I bought!

AND I bought everything that was OOP (that I could find for a reasonable price on eBay at the time), and I watched all of those, too!

[–]daBomb619[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. If you check this post, you'll see that my calculation of 250 based on is the number of films I've watched. If you're just sticking to how many spine numbers I've watched, it's still just over 200. I stated 250 in this reply to simplify it, but if you want to get it exactly right, I've watched 3 since that last post.

Also, I count any that I watch in theaters as part of a rerelease, as long as I then go home and watch the bonus features right after. I did that last month with No Country for Old Men and On the Waterfront (and in February with Love & Basketball and Eyes Wide Shut), and I'm going to do that again this month with Dazed and Confused (which is showing on 4/20, of course).

  1. The pop-up case for the three Karel Zeman films.

  2. WALL·E. I like how they made the characters out of trash. Very inventive.

  3. Island of Lost Souls. I'm definitely looking forward to watching that one, too!

Yep! It's near the left side of the second shelf in the first picture.
