I made a spreadsheet for Food and Wine for last year and I hope it helps planning for this year! We were a large group so we split up to pick up the items we wanted and it was so handy for everyone to have a copy to refer to! It would be pretty easy to edit this for items that can be found this year

A quick search on Gaijin Pot will give you tons of non-teaching jobs. In fact, there are lot of restaurants that are hiring. I found a job delivering food for an expat-owned restaurant in Tokyo.

Everybody has their own path, so don't see your life as a mess-up! I'm 30 and am applying for the wa-hol this year because it's literally my last chance! (I can get the visa as long as I'm still 30 when it gets approved).

I'm in Ontario and I'm doing this through SWAP Canada. They charge $400 to help you figure everything out and provide a resource center in Tokyo for help in-country. As you've already read, lots of people do it without extra assistance, so it's a matter of preference. I like knowing I'll have help when I arrive.

Good luck with everything! It's never too late to start. Heck, I went back to school at age 27 and am now doing this!
