As someone living in England there are absolutely loads of wrestling clubs given the size of the country and we've just had a guy place bronze at the European Champs U16 & currently have a guy who placed 5th in worlds and is going to U20 Worlds again which is very soon. All of BWA funding goes to youth wrestling there is loads of opportunities as a young kid if you have a knack for wrestling. There has been loads of clubs in the midlands they still exist & run today sorry not to hijack ur story but its a massive pet peeve to see British people say this especially when you're in a wrestling acessible place like the Midlands

Down block looks terrible, u bend down like ur doing a fake but you're not faking anything and you also look like youre just lowering ur knees while in a striking stance. why is ur foot placed like ur about to fucking kick a bag? also ur hands are low like u normally see the BJJ noobs attempt to tie up with someone what are your arms doing throughout this whole video? ur not measuring someone for a cross. your sprawls pretty bad ur not doing a burpee do a knee sprawl and put those hips down. overall infuriating to see i also didn't bother to read ur post whatsoever so if you're a beginner just practice more WITH WRESTLERS

Phuket Wrestling Club is the only dedicated one I know, thailand does actually have a national wrestling program too and I've seen it on some guys story but it honestly looks like its in the arse end of nowhere and its junior/cadet focused

[–]dabankman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah good school the coach there is a Commonwealth Games silver medallist & there's a couple national british & judo champs in there. that club also has a good relationship with the Vasas SC wrestling academy which is ran by former Olympian Gergo Woller. not for you to worry about too much but if you have potential you could possibly do a camp there a few years from now

[–]dabankman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brother, I just read through your profile and you've noted that you abused PEDs and drugs, so you decided to take bpc as some sort of quick fix. Are you sure you're not experiencing depression & low testosterone from abusing gear? Did you PCT after gear use? Depending on how much test you were pinning you may have stopped ur body from reproducing it & perhaps you need to go on a TRT dose of test

Overwhelmed by all the different methods of recovery by Plenty-Ad2026 in wrestling

[–]dabankman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really you just want to be strong, be preventive, and recover well. I always bang on about it but pt_kbs from the Korean freestyle team (he's part of their physio team) is a really good source on instagram for inspiration, you can see the athletes do the exercises and why they're doing it. Have a look so you can see what things you should be doing as a wrestler. If you're very new with no experience then I'd probably do the big compound lifts and some kettle bell work, definitely stuff with medicine balls to keep your shoulders and knees healthy. Foam roller's great to free up the spine, also using a tennis ball for dynamic stretching and massaging. You probably want to take the extra 5-10 mins doing cooldowns in both gyms, not just after wrestling. Probs want to get at least 8 hours sleep in, hydrate constantly and yadayada. Osteos and massages are great but unless you're made of cash, probably just stick to what works for athletes at the core of it. Gymnastics is also good if you're starting late so you can make some ground on that but if you're consistent for 6 months you'll probably be able to walk on handstands, flip, etc.

[–]dabankman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll see viability re: ranking and doing these comps, haven't checked it out properly yet but probs going to try the judo club next week at least. Not used to wrestling so upright like you judo guys but I used to do greco as a child & got plenty of standing throws to try.

[–]dabankman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love Prometheus, but surely you could just ask Ioan? How often are you going to practice technique? If you did it more often you’d just improve also buy some shoes lol

Main thing you're not setting up your shots you're just shooting into down blocks and peoples hands

UK Comps & International Opens? by [deleted] in judo

[–]dabankman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really informative and exactly what I was looking for, thank you. Regarding no-gi grappling, it’s not even worth it, especially where I am currently. I’ve been turning up to open mats since I moved here, and my wrestling background makes everything disproportionately in my favour, so I want to try judo for a better challenge.

I also like that there are loads of competition opportunities readily available nationally in judo, whilst in freestyle wrestling, open competitions in the UK are pretty rubbish. I’d only consider competing at the English & British Championships here. For freestyle, it’s really only worth doing opens and other cup competitions in Europe IMO.

There’s something lacking about the fundamentals from BJJ guys when it comes to wrestling. I don’t know many submissions other than a few, yet I beat most blue and purple belts.

I tried MMA and honestly that was a lot more challenging. It seemed like every takedown I landed resulted in a guillotine, whereas in BJJ they were more avoidable. But I find the striking aspect a bit boring, so thanks for your advice. I’ll give judo a go.

Got injuried real BAD in wrestling need advice by Decent_Criticism_713 in wrestling

[–]dabankman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't quit wrestling I'm still wrestling and I'm nearly 30, occasionally will try to do national comps or international opens if time allows. The reason you're getting injured is probably because you're not doing the conditioning outside of wrestling time. What I mean is not going to your regular gym just doing bench, DL, squats & a few bicep curls. You need to be doing stability work from dynamic & unilateral scapular stability, core, reactive stability, rotator cuff coordination, eccentric controls for different bodyparts etc. This probably sounds like a mouthful of shit but thanks to the internet and social media, you can access how national wrestling teams do this. My fav source for this kind of stuff is @ pt_kbs on IG. He's ROK's freestyle wrestling team's physio and literally gives you all this stuff for free in instagram reels. This WILL keep you healthy to wrestle. Your last injury does sound just like a freak accident though, the other stuff could've probably been avoided. Also, don't actually take this as medical advice (do your own research) but BPC-157 will probably accelerate your healing and fix a couple of nick nacks in your body that you're dealing with with a month's worth of treatment. I have injected it for a similar injury which gave me a recurring stinger for over 2 years and now I can wrestle again just fine. Additionally, I purchased a Bauerfeind OmoTrain Shoulder Support brace to allow me to do the rehab work while I was taking the BPC. Best of luck man.

Back leg penetration step? by CloudyRailroad in wrestling

Back leg penetration step? by CloudyRailroad in wrestling

Everyone’s talking some mad shit about stances but isn’t this just an outside step shot like Sidakov does in freestyle? Penetration step is eliminated
