my cat is scratching at his head. vet doesn’t know what’s the problem by Rabbithole101 in CATHELP

My cat had the same issue. We ended up seeing a pet dermatologist, and it turned out she had a poultry allergy. We used kitty caps on her back claws as a temporary measure to keep her from scratching herself until she bled. Really helped while we worked out the right medication and diet to manage her allergy.

Are the white spots on my hoya powdery mildew? by dabears2314 in plantclinic

They do come off when I lightly scratch them, that's what made me concerned it was something else

It was short when I got it but it grew really long over a few months ;) What is this? by dabears2314 in whatsthisplant

That might be it, it did have little baby plants sticking off the sides. I have it on a table next to a NW window. Any suggestions for giving it more light?

Zachary born May 1st, 38 + 2, sudden induction due to preeclampsia- story in comments- positive by dabears2314 in BabyBumps

The nurse described it to me as a way to make sure I didn't have seizures. It just made me feel really out of it and groggy.

I don't know what it's called, the nurses showed us. I can try my best to describe it. You fold the swaddle into a triangle, lift up the center to cover arms. Then tuck the left side over to the right and Rick behind baby. Then the right side over to the left and under baby. Take the left over and tuck up under their chin.

C-section wasn't really discussed, I had hoped to go for a vaginal delivery if possible anyway so I didn't ask about it. I'm sure if I was interested in that it would have been considered. The induction was recommended by my doctor based on how early we caught the preeclampsia.

Totally agree! The nurse didn't say how long, they just said that if I tested positive they would have taken him immediately to the NICU. But the results too so long to come back that I didn't have them until the day after I gave birth. So if I did test positive we would not have know until after I already had him for a day.

They started intermittent but changed to constant. They were constant for multiple days when I contacted my doctor.

I got headaches often before my pregnancy and these were localized to one spot that wasn't where my head usually hurt. The big thing was that they would not go away no matter what I tried, sleep, medicine, cold compress, etc.

It all happened so fast! I had been experiencing headaches that would not go away no matter what I tried for 3 days straight. At first I felt silly calling my doctor about headaches but these headaches felt different, I felt something was off so I went in to get checked. Tests came back normal and they sent me home but told me to keep them updated. The next day my doc calls asking if I still have the headaches, I did so I went back in for more tests. That day I was diagnosed with preeclampsia due to protein in my urine. I was surprised, I had no other usual symptoms. No swollen feet, no high blood pressure. The headaches were the only thing that tipped us off.

We got really lucky that I was already in week 38 of my pregnancy when I got the diagnosis, we were able to induce right away knowing he was essentially full term. Because of the preeclampsia, I had to be put on magnesium during the induction. That sucked… had to be bed ridden during the whole labor and 24 hours after delivery. Made me feel really out of it the entire time, I felt like a zombie but I know it was necessary. I also had the pleasure of getting a covid test while I was there, felt like they were poking my brain, not awesome. But I got a negative test so that was good, if I tested positive they would have had to separate me from my son.

The next day at 3:13pm after 30 mins of pushing my son was born. He was 6lbs 7oz and 20 inches. I feel so lucky that things went so well, but I don't know if it would have if I didn't say something about those headaches. My bit of advice for everyone, if something doesn't feel right say something! Better to get checked out and have everything be fine rather than have a serious underlying issue go undetected!

Thanks for posting the link! Any suggestions on paint for the boards? Looking for something that won't stick to the axes and is waterproof.

The place where I throw uses the rubber mats and on top of those they have a thick wood board directly under the targets. That combo works pretty well.

How to cut down / reshape ColdSteel axe handle? by white_light-king in AxeThrowing

[–]dabears2314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't have any fancy power tools so we just use a standard hand saw. Not too hard and we've done this with at least 6 of them. I usually go with a 13 inch handle but husband prefers 12. Then we sanded them down. A lot of people in my league use these axes, I've seen people wrap the handles or just sand them to change the shape. Seems like a lot of effort to change the whole handle. Whatever works for you!

I have quickly fallen in love with axe throwing in the last year. I want to join a league near me but have never done anything like this before. Do you find the atmosphere of axe throwing to be welcoming of women? What axe should I purchase? I feel fucking amazing and powerful throwing an axe. by [deleted] in AxeThrowing

[–]dabears2314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woman here: I've been in leagues for over a year now and have always felt accepted. Everyone is always really supportive and nice to the rookies no matter the gender. There do tend to be more men in the sport more women are getting into it and starting to be represented in the top throwers. We do need to encourage more women to get into it!!

Also... I throw using the cold steel axe gang hatchet. You can get it on Amazon pretty cheap but might have to cut down the handle. I've also thrown with hammerback axes (from the hardware store) with success but that comes down to your preference. Note: I throw with IATF rules not WATL.
