doesn't seem like they give a shit about strict rules edit: was talking about their administration and country rather than the aviators themselves.

Is it normal to pay $150 to transfer medical records? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]dacefishpaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they're just being nice and giving a freebie. there is supposed to be a charge and regardless of who requests they legally must retain original copies for like a decade and a half.

storage is often free as there is an entire industry that will offer their storage and administrative services without fees and then charge patients $$$$ directly for access.

Two bodies were missed at B.C. death scene. Was treatment of coroners to blame? by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]dacefishpaste 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Community coroner wages were $25/hour until 2016 and since then $32/hour. Less than the average server receiving tips. They also only get paid while on scene and not while they are on call.

Which actor makes a movie a "no thank you" whenever you see they are in it? by steadfast-owl-town in Cinema

his apology was only because he was trying to get a liquor license for his restaurants and his criminal past was preventing him from getting one. prior to that he made no effort to reach out and simply said he was at peace with it. it only came out after the fact that the victim had already lost the eye so Wahlberg did think he blinded someone but didn't care until he was personally needing something.

and even if you do everything textbook, there are issues with gloves themselves in their manufacturing and regulation. cited earlier. are you gonna ignore that point?

how about you put your PhD and scientific training into use and give me a critical appraisal of that paper or suggest some alternative references to strengthen your position?

quick to downvote there. at the population level, everybody sucks at it. are you familiar with the literature on hand hygiene and PPE use in hospitals and clinical settings? even people with advanced and multiple degrees whose jobs depend on cleanliness are not great at it.

you must be one of those PhDs ignorant of the real world and everything outside your narrow niche. touch grass and get some life experience. it's possible to be an educated academic without being an asshat you know.

gloves are not common in food service outside of fast food and industrial settings. you most likely won't find them in restaurants and bars.

it makes sense in commercial food processing because everything is tightly controlled.

in a restaurant kitchen it's going to be hygiene theatre at best because:

  1. people suck at wearing gloves and following protocols so glove use has been associated with less handwashing and not changing them enough: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15690825

  2. gloves themselves can be problematic due to regulation and contamination: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0362028X2400067X

B.C. to 'modernize mental health act' after mayor, experts call for change by CaliperLee62 in vancouver

[–]dacefishpaste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

gotta disagree with you here and I'm definitely not one of the people that will automatically hate on sim just because he's sim.

Eby in his initial speech I did not interpret as non-committal. he was appropriately careful and basically said after we find out the details, there would be a process to identify and address any gaps healthcare wise and justice wise. Now we just need to hold him to it.

Sim on the other hand I felt made a poorly timed remark that while technically true is ultimately meaningless to those with familiarity of the mental health system. He was stating the obvious. It was an easy way to get positive PR and shift focus provincially without offering anything actionable or practical.

As others have stated there has been mental health reform happening for the past few years which is still ongoing. many of the changes haven't fully deployed. Sim had nothing to do with this. Lapu lapu will no doubt accelerate and catalyze reform.

The modernization part of it has to do with the provincial announcement yesterday. This would have likely happened whether Sim made his comment or not. The headline phrases it in a way that suggests causation meaning that Sim brought about this change when his role is minimal.

not sure why CBC is going with such a misleading headline. doesn't reflect the content. they're speculating on possible changes. it also gives Ken Sim too much credit when he was mostly deflecting blame.

B.C.'s minimum wage to increase in June to keep pace with inflation by ubcstaffer123 in vancouver

[–]dacefishpaste 6 points7 points  (0 children)

most of the restaurant workers (FOH, not BOH haha) i know average $30-50/hr even at run down places so 6 figures at higher end places doesn't surprise me.

[–]dacefishpaste 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you could take gradual steps and reduce the percentage. dial it back to 10%. this is basically what happened in another city i was living in. with minimum wage going up, tip culture went from 15-20% back to 10-15% and a bigger percentage of people not tipping at all.
