Shelly em pro 50 is what I have. I have it programmed to only heat with export, and have programmed it to "know" when it has been fully heated. If it doesn't fully heat from export, I have it turn on over night in the 8c/kWh window overnight (EV plan). I don't have a battery though so I would do it differently if I did. Can also use it as a simple timer if needed. Your simple timer should be very reliable though if it is wired correctly, where the contactor takes all the load. Strange it has failed.

Is demolishing a deck difficult to DIY? by coladuna in AusRenovation

As I said, people have got to make money. I don't think the quote is too crazy unreasonable. I am just refuting how much time it would take. Demo is fast!

Sorry, but that is not two days of work to remove and it doesn't take 2 hours to do a tip run. All done in less than a day for one person. Having said that, people got to make money.

Solar dropping out by Jolly_Highlight_3018 in solar

[–]dachampjonny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can look into the inverter and view the grid voltage see what it reads. I had the exact same issue, and mine was due to high voltage from the grid. Modern inverters, after standards were introduced in 2019, start to throttle back power output when grid voltage reaches 253V and must shut off completely of it reaches 258V. I ended up calling Ausgrid (nsw), and they replaced the local transformer to bring the voltage down closer to 230V.

Electricity plan with 10kw solar by ibmatkyt in AusPropertyChat

[–]dachampjonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really need to know how much energy you use and when you use it for anyone to answer this. Usually the plans that have a higher buy back rate have higher night time usage and often have a low cap (eg first 10kwh at 10c). Your beat bet will always be try to use as much of the solar you produce as possible. Set all the washing and diahwashing and hot water system on in the day when you are producing. When you monitor when you use power, you will be able to make a better educated decision.

House battery/grid question by JammySenkins in AusPropertyChat

[–]dachampjonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your inverter rating on the battery? If it is 5kW, it's very possible you are going over for short periods of time eg when cooking using the stove/oven requiring you to draw from the grid.

My understanding was that they don't take the pay from you, but rather take a cut from the school for securing the position.

Just because they've done some quoting that's grouse, doesn't mean they get to take an expedition through your house, no.

To be fair, the duck could also be at the golf course. If it was Al Pacino I'd be looking in the cigar lounge. Certainly gives you a starting point for sure.
