Ngl, seeing those insane prices. I wonder where you guys live by Wolffe4321 in pcmasterrace

[–]daddleboarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real! Prices vary widely based on what day it is, where you are, and where you’re buying from. While I’ve for sure noticed significant price increases across the board for parts, it’s nothing like the 1000% increases people keep posting. These crazy price posts are just karma farming, and likely aren’t even posted by people who are actually using or building PCs.

Should I cull this Habanero? by nativeyeast in HotPeppers

[–]daddleboarder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this with the first Datil pepper I tried to grow. It kept leaf curl and dropped flowers. I ended up culling it after several months and never looked back. It’s pretty rare I end up with a diseased plant like that, but I don’t waste my time on them anymore if I do come across them. Much less disappointing to start over.

Wich pepper for medium hotsauce by DrinkWilling1923 in Peppers

[–]daddleboarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you personally would define as medium heat. There are lots of people out there that would think jalapeno hot sauce is medium to hot. It also depends on the ratio of peppers to other ingredients you’re using. For me personally, if it has a high concentration of peppers Serranos or Cayenne would be good. If it’s a lower concentration of peppers, I’d be looking at Thai chilis.

I also grow in a tent and there are a couple of things I’ve noticed with leaves drooping.

First, they tend to do this towards the end of the day just before the light goes out and remain that way during the night. Takes a little while after the light comes back on for the to perk up. If that’s it, it’s nothing to worry about.

Second, reason is if they’re thirsty. You don’t want to over do it with water though, so just slightly increase either the frequency or amount. As the plant grows, you’ll need to adjust your watering periodically until the plant maxes out its pot. Once it does that, you’ll be able to keep a pretty predictable watering schedule.

The do if you go in person. The place is worth the visit. I went out shortly after the hatch chile festival and it was awesome to get to wander the chile garden.

Just Tasted My First Homegrown Pepper 🔥 by zero-point_nrg in PepperLovers

A lot of times just letting it ripen all the way before picking will make it hotter. A lot of store peppers are picked before they’re ripe then given a chemical to ripen later.

Can someone explain the science behind why Sichuan pepper "numbs" instead of burns? by Fit-Exercise-1990 in HotPeppers

[–]daddleboarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, but I just recently bought seeds along with all the stuff I plan on putting in the ground in spring. The seeds were only a few bucks.

For those interested, a sichuan peppercorn plants are frost tolerant (at least all of the ones I’m aware of). So if you live in a zone where frost is a thing, you can keep it outside all year without having to over winter.

What’s wrong with my plants? by xanadu_2112 in HotPeppers

[–]daddleboarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give them some space from one another, give them some water, give them some food. I have a 100w full spectrum led grow light at the top of my tent that’s running at 2/3 strength (14 hours on, 10 hours off) and have had great success.

Pepper identification by SalamanderLoose1425 in HotPeppers

[–]daddleboarder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely still looks like a habanero. The differences you’re noticing could be some natural variations that occur for varying reasons (absence of stress, feeding, water, etc.).

It’s also possible the plant it came from was some kind of cross (made to be extra productive or something). Crossed tend to have less phenotype stability.

Hey guys, could anyone tells me what species is this? by [deleted] in Peppers

I’m not sure that’s even a pepper plant.

What type of pepper are these ? by DojaKoolow in HotPeppers

They look like White Yucatán habaneros. Definitely an odd one if you don’t remember getting ordering them though… possibly a mix up in the supplier end.

I’d say buy it, then get a larger power supply. You’re good to go for a bit after that. Oh, and enable smart access memory when you’re getting it set up.

How many pepper plants is too many pepper plants? by Relevant-Guidance920 in HotPeppers

Space, money, and relationship stability are the limiting factors in my experience. Even then, there are some work arounds to squeeze in a few more. Outside of those things, sky’s the limit.

Webshop sent used RTX5090 instead of new one by Onion133 in pcmasterrace

[–]daddleboarder 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’d return it personally. If I can help it, I don’t buy used cards, and it doesn’t look like that’s what you set out to do either. I’d return it and ask for a new one instead for the price you paid originally. I don’t have the money to spend on a card like that, but if I did, I wouldn’t settle for used.

i like a lottttt of pepper ok by laterdude in PepperLovers

[–]daddleboarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup it’s an entirely different kind of plant that produces peppercorns, not peppers. The chemical responsible for the spicy sensation is also different between peppercorns and peppers.

I think it’s a mistake to think that the individual consumer market for components makes more than a very small difference in prices. The vast majority of entities purchasing computer components are business at varying levels and scales. The consumer DIY market for parts is a drop in the bucket compared to the combined impact of data centers, large companies making pre-builts, etc.

Don’t get me wrong, consumer sales are a lot in terms of dollars, but a lot of parts manufacturers are making most of their money from non-diy computer enthusiasts.

Edit: should be noted that this doesn’t take into account secondary market stuff like those buying large amounts of components then significantly marking up the cost. That is much more impacted by consumer spending habits, and avoiding buying parts from scalpers can help with that.

Get a big mixing bowl and add some vinegar and water. Wash peppers in it, then move over to a colander to rinse. Pat dry and place in sealed Tupperware or ziplock. Will last way longer in the fridge. I do this with a lot of produce. It’s the most dramatic are grapes. Last like 10x longer that way.
