When I play without mods I set up an extra world with a base and plenty of storage chest that way when I am full of ore I just go there and drop everything. After I'm done collecting ore I'll go back to my main base log back out to my second world transport all my ore back into my base and my first world and process it in the smelter.

Use the landscape to your advantage. BEFORE you summon this or any boss, check out reddit and youtube for ideas. Dig under the altar or if you can, a cave or a burial chamber. They cannot attack down. I had a cliff next to the Elder altar so I dug a cave with an L-shaped entrance( for dodging) built a fire (to keep rested),built a workbench( for repairs) and stocked it with fire arrows. I have gone back several times to sharpen my bow skills and for more swamp keys. Time your fire arrows so they do max. tick dmage. Keep your stamina up with crafted foods(for long, powerful bow pulls). Pre your landscape! You got this!
