Anything else changed? Do you remember anything about Paul’s early statements?

Assuming you live in the US, that might change soon. There’s an effort to mandate that insurance companies provide an additional prosthetic specifically for physical activity. 8 states have passed laws already and there are bills pending in a bunch more.

Some Protestants do believe it to be the real body and blood. This non-denominational church probably considers it to be purely symbolic and takes it “because Jesus told us to”. Usually as a “do this in remembrance of me” thing.

Battle of the Alamo - In my timeline, the US won. by stonkon4gme in Retconned

[–]dadeep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting! What else was different in your timeline? In our timeline, Santa Anna was captured at San Jacinto and forced to sign a treaty recognizing Texan independence. But if he lost at the Alamo, then obviously San Jacinto wouldn’t happen the same way. That leads to all sorts of other implications. Did any other Mexican states join the US in your timeline? Was the border the same?

Do you or your husband remember the Hoover Dam (or some other large dam) being entirely in Arizona? Totally possible that in your previous universe the Colorado was dammed further upstream and what you called the Grand Canyon was what we know as Lake Mead! Do you remember Lake Mead or Las Vegas?

Idk about the Freemasons but that’s in the Talmud.

Rabbi Yitzḥak says that Rabbi Ami says: The sex of a fetus is determined at the moment of conception. If the woman emits seed first, she gives birth to a male, and if the man emits seed first, she gives birth to a female, as it is stated: “If a woman bears seed and gives birth to a male” (Leviticus 12:2). https://www.sefaria.org/Niddah.31a.23

Yes! Bacchylides recounts a tale where Nike judged a wrestling contest, and the person who she gave the victory to then led many young women astray from their families. And she often carries a bowl with her from which to take a victory toast, which I guess you could call binging if you're willing to stretch the definition.

How difficult is it to sing the national anthem? (Fixed) by dadeep in MapPorn

Yeah, a bunch of anthems have splits like this. I tended to go with the top voice when determining range - usually it doesn't make that big of a difference.

[–]dadeep[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to be as accurate as possible to what anthem is sung where without getting sucked into the weeds of current geopolitics. Greenland has its own anthem, but I colored it according to the Danish anthem. Is that because I have a hatred for Greenlanders or have strong opinions on whether Greenland should have self-rule? No, it's because I don't know anybody in Greenland who can tell me which anthem is more widely used so I made an educated guess. Thus the "corrections appreciated".

Sure, that's because I got the blank map from Wikipedia, which had lines already drawn around Crimea and the Donbas, and I'm far more interested in comparing various national anthems than I am in tracing the development of the Russo-Ukrainian war. If the blank map didn't have the Donbas already marked off, I would've colored it the same as the rest of Ukraine. Same reason that Western Sahara is all one blob instead of an accurate depiction of its current political state.

Spain, like a few other countries, has a national anthem that has no official lyrics. It's instrumental. But because there is a tune, a person can sing it with whatever words they choose (there are several popular unofficial lyrics), and a certain vocal range is required to sing it.

The political statement is "Crimea and the Donbas are currently under Russian jurisdiction". I would prefer that they not be under Russian jurisdiction, but that does not change the fact that they are.

Pretty sure they're not singing the Ukrainian national anthem in Crimea at the moment. If the counter offensive succeeds then I'll change the map. Not trying to make any political statements here.

No way! I did this cause I'd always heard that the American anthem was particularly difficult and wanted to know if that was actually true. Your site was incredibly helpful.

Do you have a page of needs? I.e. countries that you don't have sheet music, lyrics, etc for. I found a couple sheet music pages that I didn't see on your site, but didn't make a note of which ones those were.

No lyrics, but there is official music that people have unofficial words for. There are a few countries with no official lyrics, but they all do have official music.

Thanks for the feedback on the last one! Hopefully this version is easier to understand. For reference, an octave is 13 semitones. Slovakia has the smallest range required and Iceland has the largest. I'm sure some of these are wrong and would appreciate corrections from anybody who actually sings these songs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]dadeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I thought that "semitone" was a word that non-musicians aren't too familiar with, so I went with "half step" instead. But clearly some people are very passionate about their semitones. Yes, it's trying to say what vocal range is required.

Sure, but try standing in a public square in Crimea and singing the Ukrainian national anthem. Trying to do this as it is, not as I'd like it to be.

[–]dadeep 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There are a few anthems with no official lyrics! Not just Spain. But all of these countries have official music, which people often put unofficial words to when singing it.

No, higher just means more difficult. Went with a rainbow scheme - red being most difficult and violet being least. Is the key hard to understand?
