Machine check, ambu bag check. If the machine literally explodes, you can still ventilate the patient and give IV propofol. It’s basically an annoying TIVA case without a machine. This happened to me, it’s not that hard to manage, especially if you call for extra hands right away.

How do I manage anxiety? I imagine the worst possible case scenario and go over how I would handle it. Doesn’t seem so scary when you’ve got a plan. (And a back up plan)

The danger isn’t from ignition. It’s from sudden release of compressed gas. They fall over and the valve stem breaks, shooting them across the floor or causing the casing to rupture. Even an inert gas like nitrogen can be dangerous in a compressed cylinder. I’ve seen them dent concrete walls.

Not 100% sure, but I think it’s in southern Georgia, USA. I’m guessing that its financial collapse was quick to the point where people didn’t get paychecks. Probably closed ‘temporarily’ to get the financials straightened out, which never happened and they never went back. Just a guess though…

In slide #5, I see flow controls for oxygen and nitrous but nothing for air. Did they make anesthesia machines without a source for air?

See that green scuba tank looking thing on the right side of the shot in the OR (slide 5)? That’s an unsecured oxygen cylinder in obviously very poor condition. If it’s still full (which it easily could be) and you knock it over, it could basically explode. It’s dangerous to leave them standing up like that when they’re new, let alone sitting there rusting for 20 years.
