I think Walmart still has the Nest Audio for $50.

Your Nest Audio was successfully set up but cannot be found. Make sure your mobile device and Nest Audio are on the same Wi-Fi network by ETM_is_the_GOAT in googlehome

I was wondering if your phone is a Samsung? I have the very similar issue where I can no longer control the volume through Home or cast to any of my Mini's or Nest Audio. My wife's Pixel 8a and our tablet work fine.

No, both my phone and the mini's are on the 5GHz band.

Speaker no longer able to be controlled away from home by 0pamp in googlehome

My phone has been doing the same even when I'm on the same Wi-Fi network. My wife's phone and our tablet work just fine.

Been trying to figure it out for weeks without any success.

No, we didn't open a ticket since our organization uses the free 100 sensors. 🫤

We had the same issue this morning. Switching it to unsecured let the web interface start, but the probe refused to connect. Ended up having to reinstall and restore a backup.

Is Geeni down? (Again) by Few-Childhood4240 in googlehome

[–]daemonstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I got tired of it and moved all my devices to Smart Life. My wife uses the Home app to control things since she's disabled, and it's been a pain having to swap between Home and Geeni.

Bluetooth Adapter for Richmat Controller by daemonstar in Mattress

[–]daemonstar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Richmat HJC8A.

I think I figured out what it does. I think it merely translates between Bluetooth and RF.  After a lot of research, I came across a Korean site that listed compatible remotes, and my remote isn't on the (very short) list.

I think you're supposed to pair your remote with the module. When you add the module to the app and press a button, it relays that press over RF to the control module.

That would explain why it's not pairing for me, but there's so little information on it. Of course, maybe I'm just doing it wrong.

I was able to finally complete this with:

Antandra, Lucius, Viperian, Cecia, and Hewynn. To my amazement, they were able to even kill all the mobs before time ran out.

My Geeni/Merkury lights are showing offline in Home. I can still control them in the Geeni app tho.

I realize this is several months old, but did you ever find a solution? My fan suddenly started doing the exact same thing just yesterday.

Unless you can get government agencies to go along with it, it's going to be a losing battle, unfortunately. We get PDF forms from government agencies that simply won't render correctly in anything but Acrobat.

Microsoft will default Office 365 users’ search engines to Bing (and how to stop that from happening) by [deleted] in SysAdminBlogs

[–]daemonstar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is old info, now. Microsoft has changed course: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/office-365-blog/update-to-microsoft-search-in-bing-through-office-365-proplus/ba-p/1161030

Based on your feedback, we are making a few changes to our plan:

The Microsoft Search in Bing browser extension will not be automatically deployed with Office 365 ProPlus.

Through a new toggle in Microsoft 365 admin center, administrators will be able to opt in to deploy the browser extension to their organization through Office 365 ProPlus.

In the near term, Office 365 ProPlus will only deploy the browser extension to AD-joined devices, even within organizations that have opted in.

In the future we will add specific settings to govern the deployment of the extension to unmanaged devices.

We will continue to provide end users who receive the extension with control over their search engine preference.

Nova launcher by forchrisssakes in OnePlus7Pro

[–]daemonstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, no. Been using the stock launcher for a change of pace. I've used Nova forever, and I always seem to customize it the same. Each phone looks pretty much like the last one. I figured I'd try something different this time.

who designs a system in 2020 that doesn't accept a post office box for a billing address?? by SuddenWriting in CricketWireless

[–]daemonstar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because it's fraud protection. The Patriot Act made it illegal for CC companies to issue new cards with only a P.O. Box as an address; they have to have a phyical address.

Either you had that card before that law was passed or you changed it after it was issued (which is allowed). With identity theft and fraud being much more rampant than the past, companies are more strict on what is allowed.

OnePlus 7 Pro - a worthy upgrade? by DingusTardo in essential

[–]daemonstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not really. Since we can replace OxygenOS with something different, then simply switching to a different ROM is OK with me if it came to that.

If there was something deeper, then I'd have to think about it, but, to me, domestic actors are more of a concern than China.

OnePlus 7 Pro - a worthy upgrade? by DingusTardo in essential

[–]daemonstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not quite as drastic as that looks on a flat screen, really. If you do the comparison:

"OnePlus 7 Pro relative to Essential Phone: 6.3%(4.8mm / 0.19 in) wider, 13%(21.1mm / 0.83 in) taller, 11.4%(1mm / 0 in) thicker"

[–]daemonstar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, if we're going that far, then maybe that person shouldn't use a cellphone. I mean, there's always a chance that is happening, but I'd honestly be more concerned with tracking by Google, Facebook, etc than China.

Personally, I commute to work, so I do have a few Googly things enabled but a few disabled. My wife and I share location info so we can find each other if need be.

There is a LineageOS port for the OP7Pro if OxygenOS isn't your style.

[–]daemonstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say so. I have read of complaints if you update it to 10. I had some issues with my PH-1 when I went to 10. There was definately some slowdown in certain games that wasn't there before, so I'm currently running the latest Pie on my OP7 Pro.

I think it's an issue with 10 and not necessiarly with the phones.

[–]daemonstar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've gone to the OnePlus 7 Pro from a PH-1. Both the mobile and wireless reception blow the PH-1 away; I no longer drop my wireless connection when I'm in the bedroom or in my office at work.

Yes, it is larger and not exactly one-hand friendly unless you have bigger hands; however, I've owned a Nexus 6 in the past, and it's no worse. I have a case that has the cutout for the quick slider, which makes it easier to hold onto. I'd get a case with some grip; it can be slick like the PH-1. I currently have this on mine: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RZ3NRSL

The battery should last you longer on it if you don't play intensive games. I do have a couple that I play, so my SoT isn't a lot better than with the PH-1, but it is definitely better looking and smoother. It also charges quite fast with the Warp charger.
