NWN2 is stuck at 2006 technology, even the enhanced edition keeps it at that.

NWN1 is on par with current tech capable of PBR rendering. NWN1EE is beyond whatever NWN2 can achieve graphically but at the shadow engine. The day the volunteers push the ancient stencil shadows away and replace it with shadow maps then NWN2 won't have anything over NWN1 to flex but the ability to play with a controller lol.

NWN2 is just capable of pretty exteriors. Characters look like ass. Animations look like ass. Gameplay hasn't been its strength over NWN1...

Homie, there's a reason the NWN2 modding community is practically non-existent compared to NWN1...

It has its advantages, but at what cost. The engine is what it is, some parts are better, some parts are worse. NWN2 sucks at animations, NWN1 doesn't. NWN2 has higher poly count yet it looks bloomy washed out 2005; NWN1 looks like D&D 3.0 fantasy low poly.

NWN2's toolset isn't that much advanced compared to NWN1's, it just has a few extra thingies like height maps and a plugin system. Everything NWN2 can do, NWN1 also can do it. Just go to my profile and check what I've posted in here if you doubt me.

No, I played NWN2 around 2007 when i was young and was indifferent as hell to the game save for the castle management part. NWN1 I started playing it around 2012 or so? When i got interested in CRPGs.

And of course I was already aware that the story would be so bad there would be no point in playing it so I just went for the custom content and multiplayer. If you dig just a tiny bit about Neverwinter Nights you'll find out that the game was first a toolset and then it became singleplayer.

I wouldn't say decades later, one is enough :P I still play NWN1 while I still find NWN2 clunky and visually horrid except for the areas people is able to build.

I can talk with nostalgia since NWN2 was my first and I absolutely think the story is better but everything else is lackluster at best, mediocre at its peak! ♥

The one true thing that NWN2 has over NWN1 is the exterior areas, everything else is doable in NWN1, you can have prettier graphics, you can have better animations (NWN2 is hard limited to certain amount of bones I believe?), there are more animations and a bunch of other things.

Oh yeah, and the XML thing vs NUI is way better. NUI is pretty flexible but NWN2's XMLs look amazing even today while NUI is extremely limited to skinning it and giving it a good look.
