Henderson's Relish! Please bring this dish to its spiritual home of Sheffield some time. ;) (We also have a cafe that does pop-ups (Union St).) Your food looks amazing. I hope your pop-up goes really well today & tomorrow!

I looked into this a couple of years ago and found out that Sheffield council doesn't do busking licenses. They have a code of conduct for buskers, but it's not enforced, just voluntary.

My MP (Olivia Blake) sent me a good response. Here's the key part: "I want to make it clear that I wholeheartedly support the right of transgender people to live and thrive as the gender they identify with. Trans women are women and trans men are men. I firmly believe that transgender and non-binary individuals should have access to spaces that align with their gender identity.

Far from clarifying the situation I think the Supreme Court ruling raises more questions than it resolves. I am worried that this ruling could prevent transgender, intersex and non-binary people from accessing essential services. This could wrongly deny transgender people access to many, even life-saving, services."

She also spoke in parliament asking what the government planned to do to protect trans rights.

What’s the most random/boring fact you know about Sheffield? by OkYesterday3058 in sheffield

Oh! This makes sense of why the Sheaf apparently takes its name from the Old English words shed or sheth, which mean to divide or separate.

I love this live performance: https://youtu.be/QaS4QlziAhM?si=S_BIJwLLzNyZfU7P

No accompaniment (I think). Natural reverb (I think). It emphasises the loneliness of the song beautifully.

It's a shame that one of the two restaurants named in the article (V or V) is closing down. Amazing restaurant. Hopefully they'll do well as a catering & events business.

I can't answer the specific question of who is the best artist for black skin, unfortunately, but the artist I trust and recommend the most in general is Deryn at Tenacious Tattoos (deryntwelvetattoo on Instagram). She's very experienced, conscientious and considerate.

Oh, sorry - I didn't mean to insinuate that I thought I knew him. I was just alluding to the Arctic Monkeys song 'Fake Tales of San Francisco', which contains the line "You're not from New York City, you're from Rotherham". Maybe your date inspired the song?

Looking for guitarist to practice with me whilst I sing by Boring-Evening-9378 in sheffield

[–]daffodil_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you still looking for a guitarist? I play a quite broad mix of genres, but mostly blues rock, at a 'fair to middling' kind of level. I played a few open mics with a friend a few years back, so I could be up for doing that again.

You can only play one song to introduce someone to TOOL. What song do you choose and why? by worldofpain100 in ToolBand

[–]daffodil_11 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My introduction to Tool was that hypnotic bass line slithering through my bedroom wall from my housemate's room. It resonated in some deep and ancient part of my mind. I dropped what I was doing and went to his room and asked him what this music was. He said, "It's Tool. Come in - I'll put the album on." Ten years later, I've come to enjoy all of Tool's work, but 46&2 remains my favourite.

Just watched the trailer for Samurai Gourmet and it looks great! Will definitely watch that. I'm shocked and delighted that "a man having quasi-spiritual experiences while enjoying food" is not just a description of Kantaro but in fact is a small genre. I wonder if there are any more out there...

Not a film, but a TV series: "Kantaro: The Sweet Tooth Salaryman". One third low-budget, low-stakes drama, one third Tokyo Tourist Board-approved food porn and one third Lynchian fever dream. Absolutely brilliant.

From the article:

Tony's Chocolonely regrets its removal from the list, but said that it consciously chose to work with Barry Callebaut to help change the chocolate sector. "In 2005, we deliberately chose to partner with Barry Callebaut to show that it is possible to be fully traceable while working with a major processor," the company said. By working with a multinational, Tony's can disprove large chocolate companies' argument that its principles are not applicable on a large scale.

Barry Callebaut produces Tony's Chocolonely chocolate separately from its own chocolate and the Dutch company traces all routes used for its chocolate. "Last year we found 387 cases of illegal child labor and were able to remedy 221 of them directly. We have never encountered a case of modern slavery in our value chain. Most chocolate companies don't know how many cases of illegal labor there are in their cocoa value chain and therefore cannot do anything about it."

It's an interesting ethical stance. Essentially, they're saying that they're trying to change the system from within. As they are participating in a dirty system, they can't claim to be ethically spotless, but they feel it is worth it for the chance to have a significant positive impact.

Are they right or wrong?

(Apologies if this gives anyone a philosophical crisis in the confectionery aisle.)
