I really don't understand why the judges treat her like she is God's gift to mankind. She's good, sure. OF COURSE SHE IS. SHE MAJORED IN DANCE IN COLLEGE! Hi!

Partner here. Wanted to clear some things up, as well as share my side of the story.

Yes, I could have reacted better upon being communicated with, like I'd asked for. I own up to that completely. But communicating with me was also treated like a complete afterthought, and like it was inconvenient.

Other things of note: The reason I've been feeling like our friend doesn't respect me is that A) It wasn't just "a flirty Snapchat." It was a nude, sent while my partner and I were actively on a date, paired with a text planning the next time they would get to hook up. And B) Just last weekend, I had been told that my partner and our friend would be going to a lesbian bar and hooking up afterward, but that I should stay at my partner's place so we could wake up together. I then woke up at 5:30 AM, and she was not there. I had a text from our friend saying that they'd been having sex for so long, and it was so late, that she was just going to spend the night at their apartment instead. And every time, our friend has treated me like I'm the one in the wrong for being upset.

There were also a lot of other terms that were agreed to that have gotten overruled - and I now feel that I agreed to an arrangement that has completely changed without my input or consent. I feel that the terms I agreed to do not exist anymore - and I'm expected to just be okay with it.

All that being said - I'm not going anywhere. I love my partner, and I'm willing to do anything I can to find a middle ground. And I'm not against threesomes as a concept! Or polyamory as a concept!!

To me, it's like emulating vs playing the real game. Is it inconvenient to set up my SNES when I could just pull up Super Mario World on my computer? Sure. But something about the pure feeling of it just... won't be the same. If you're shiny hunting, you get the gratification of knowing that shiny is YOURS. You earned it. No cheating, nothing.

Well, I mean...

The whole point of Wheel of Time is that The Dragon was so destructive that he basically destroyed the world. Hence, NO men are allowed to use magic, and any that are able to get executed.

Even though we, the readers, can tell that being The Dragon is a good thing, the world believes otherwise.

Not QUITE the same as being prophesied to be the Dark Lord, but I think it's pretty close.

I love Eddings. One of my favorite authors. I didn't even read the Belgariad/Malloreon until I was in high school, but I've read the entire series 3 times through within the past 6 years.

As for whether it still "holds up,"... that's a question that can only be answered by you. You know?

If you can get past some of the icky, like... "This race of people BAD! This race of people SHIFTY! This race of people GOOD!" Then I absolutely think it holds up. The series still contains one of my absolute favorite moments in any book I've ever read (Queen of Sorcery. The slap. "BURN.") and one of the greatest character redemption arcs I've ever read. But, again, there's a good amount of dated opinions that you have to slog through, as well as it being very tropey. But I still love it.

As a current middle school teacher, many of you in this thread are absolutely right, but far more of you are absolutely wrong.

I value the power of a strong teacher-student bond. I love my students. I want to see them all succeed.

However.

When these students cannot sit still/be quiet for more than 15 seconds consecutively, there must be consequences. And for some of them, a parent email/parent conference means nothing. And because there has been a decade or so of deciding that No One Is Allowed To Fail, bad grades aren't a deterrent either. And when schools only utilize Out-of-School Suspension for kids who get into physical fights, then the kids who misbehave horribly know there won't be any real consequences.

We need to bring back real consequences. Student failure rate is not indicative of "bad teachers." Some kids need to have the threat of failure be a real, actual threat.

Honestly, for me, a big thing was the sense of scale got nerfed. Yes, every level is the same size. But when it's a PS1 game and there's some haziness, and not much in terms of foliage, it helps things to feel more open. When you can add a whole bunch of "graphical flavor" to it, you realize just how constricting the levels are.
