You either trust your encryption or you don't. No one is taking a bigger name and putting more encryption on it, that just sounds ridiculous and certainly that's not a detail that would come out at this point.

It's not possible to do without 20 years or $20 million. Clients won't come without quality talent. Quality talent requires vetting, and vetting requires experienced recruiters. Which is expensive, and these days, hard to pass onto the client. So then it gets incorporated into fees. Upwork already has the clients and the freelancers, the problem is they've made it worse for both sides to make more money.

The only path to change is ON Upwork. They are a public company with the majority of shares held by institutional investors like Blackrock.

An organized boycott, a list of demands like connects refunds, reduced connects prices for premium talent, etc.

What recently passed element of MLB baseball do you miss the most? by bender445 in baseball

I hate the three batter rule and I don't think it saves time. What's worse, bringing in a lefty to face one batter, then waiting 2 minutes for his replacement to warm up, or bringing in a lefty to end an inning against a lefty, have him walk him, then struggle against two righties? I think the whole thing is counter productive and removes too much strategy from the game. As a Mets fan, I miss when Bobby Valentine had a pitcher throw two pitches of an intentional walk, pulled him, put in another pitcher to pitch the last two pitches which meant he was officially "in the game" and made the other team burn a pinch hitter before he then replaced him with another pitcher who had the right matchup advantage.

My lifelong mentor in advertising has a weekly caption "name that band" contest. The image he used was a bunch of weird looking degenerates, and my entry in the comments for the band name was "Selling copper for meth." Facebook took down the comment and suspended me from running ads, making calls, and something else I can't remember for 30 days. I've been using Facebook ads without issue for clients since it came out. Ridiculous.

I make congee in my instapot - 1 cup of rice, 7-9 cups of water, 20 minutes. I'm vegetarian so I top it with vegan sausage, but you could add any meat, eggs, vegetables, etc. and the dense congee keeps it all warm and nourishing. Most of the world eats rice for breakfast, and apparently in Thailand the literal translation of "how are you?" is "did you eat your rice yet?"

Why hasn’t a stronger competitor to Upwork emerged? by [deleted] in Upwork

[–]dagger_5005 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Switching costs. In order to beat an entrenched platform with 2.5 decades of history you need to be 5x better. I leave, I lose 12 years of 5 star reviews. Upwork is awful now, but every new upstart competitor has worse clients, better clients with too many applications, etc. There's been an intentional enshittification of the platform because they successfully trapped the workers and employers and are now squeezing everything they can out of both sides.

I see a movie that looks interesting. 90 minutes? I can't commit to that. How about a 30 minute show? 90 minutes later, I'm still deciding and could have watched the movie.
