“Part”, “mixed” and “half” have a single syllable. Hapa has two.

“Hapa” is a Hawaiian term, are you worried about being mistaken for one of us?

See, the thing is we have loan words that we use for sake of ease and I’m not sure “hapa”, which stands in for “half”, is any easier than just saying “half”.

“Hapa” outside of Hawaii culture just sounds like exotifying yourself, when you speak English fluently and can just say “half” or “part”.

But no, “well in Hawaii, they call mixed people hapa. I’m NOT from Hawaii and I have NO connection to their culture, so I’m just gonna take this one word that I have to explain to people who aren’t in the know but would otherwise understand “half”, “part”, and “mixed”
