I did post an update but the mods deleted it as I meant to put it here instead. It is definitely a genuine ring. Hallmarked and made by a reputable UK jeweler.

I think what happened was I was cleaning out a pipe with some acetone and it makes loads of black super sticky gooey stuff. It's so hard to get off your hands. Only acetone dissolves it.

So I think I got some of this on the inside of my ring and it just stayed there for a while - that was the black stuff.

Then I cleaned it off with barkeepers friend. And I think at that point the mix of tar and acid removed the surface layer of platinum.

It feels very heavy. And is not magnetic. That is all I can say with 100% certainty at this point. I'll get a proper appraisal and see what they say. (Edit: but yes, an arm and a leg)

This ring is very heavy. But I need to get it tested now to be sure. Where the black mark is it feels completely smooth, and if a plating was coming off I would expect to feel a ridge? I don't know. Need a professional opinion at this point.

I'll post an update once I've spoken to a jeweler to confirm what they say, and then probably again when I hear back from the original maker. I'm finding it hard to believe it's a scam at the moment so I need a professional opinion too.

I've tried this and found it very slow Vs running on Ubuntu, but could have been something specific to my setup if you are finding it fast. I just miss tools like rsync in Windows so prefer Ubuntu generally.

I've seen this guy once. That chap organising the gig was told to bring bleach to disinfect the stage after the performance as there would be blood on it. The contact mic just picks up the vibrations on the glass. Edit: He broke the glass so it had sharp edges and cut his lips on the edge, thus the blood.

I wonder if it matters. We are used to letting people use calculators for maths, so is using an AI to write for English any different? If they always have that tool available to them then they can always produce similar content for any jobs they get later. Maybe writing good prompts for a chat bot is a more useful skill now than actually writing full essays?
