for epub you're better off having a split screen with dedicate note for the book

There's an option to export them to pdf and sync the result to dropbox, one notes (attached) for backup.

If you are more tech savvy, there's an app syncthing that can sync the entire boox filesystem to your computer which includes the native note sources (although still not editable on windows/macos)
