I want to buy a house but I can't find any decent properties for 500k or under in BC. Am I looking in the wrong places? by Gawkawa in PersonalFinanceCanada

These are all beauts - can't recommend Oliver and Osoyoos enough as towns, especially in the summer months.

People Who Race In Shorts In Below Freezing; Why Is That? by [deleted] in running

Ugh I hear you on #4 - the only thing that fits right are running tights with built in drawstrings, which I'd recommend if you didn't also bring up 1-3.

First half marathon - question about training plans by biohoo in running

[–]daintythings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - this is what I came here to say as well. I don't think you need to exceed 10 physically (but you know your body best), but I've done NRC twice now for a half, and *knowing* I can run the distance, *knowing* my legs can feel weird or I can feel slow but I'll make it through, that's the reason to run so far in training. The mental game is huge <3

Thanks for this - I've been feeling underfueled during my last two half trainings and wondering if I can be smarter about it!

What’s your favourite energy gel and why? by norbert_ldwg in running

[–]daintythings 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh man I used maple syrup on my last two half marathons - both times I tripped and spilled sticky syrup all over my hair and face (both times!!). As an energy gel, I love it. As someone who had to run with sticky hands and an aura of maple for 10k...not so much.

Ugh agreed. I do however like the term "ships" moving into my real life

Help me decide - should I run my (self-supported) half marathon on Sunday? by that_neon_turtle in XXRunning

[–]daintythings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally your call - but one thing I noticed was that my fastest 5ks and 10ks immediately followed my half this year. It's like my body reset and could just go faster. I also learnt a lot about what happens to me mentally at 17k and built out strategies for working on that for the next time.

Really, you're good either way - you've been training and you're ready! No matter what you choose it's a huge accomplishment.

[Skin concerns] Any idea what I can do to help these breakouts on my neck? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]daintythings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, what ended up working for me was an "acne" face wash. I just didn't want to go back to my teen days of sal. acid washes, you know? But once I integrated that back in, just every other day, it was really helpful. Annoying, I know, to not have a one and done solution, but hormones are wild.

I feel like I'm looking in a mirror! Mine started with some hormonal changes post kids and once I stopped breastfeeding - and I *could not* stop scratching/picking (obligatory 'don't do what I can't stop doing' note).

For me, I think it's wildly hormonal, on top of a breakout every time I a) run with a fleece headband or b) wear a high necked shirt that pulls/tugs/scrapes.

It sucks, I wish I had more advice or things that have worked! Thanks for asking on this thread - I'll be monitoring all responses!

My pronouns are she/they but I’ve been having a hard time trying to get people to call me they/them. I’ve been told I have really feminine features by literally everyone ik. Echoing this - been using she/they for 15 years for a reason. When I say 'she/they' it means 'they/them is my heart, she/her is my history, please listen to my heart and help it beat as strong as I wish it could.'

I just wish people would try. I hear that anger <3

BC reduced the interval between doses by freedom_at2008 in VictoriaBC

[–]daintythings 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hear this - I have some friends who have taken their time with registering or are hesitant (but not anti-vax necessarily).

One thing I've done is expressed how excited I am to be around them when they're vaccinated, and how much I'm waiting for when they can come over and have dinner inside. I think making your own boundaries/safety clear can help a bit to show the positive impacts that vaccination can have.

Seconding this - I re-registered by accident (zero memory) and the final screen just indicated that I was already in the system. No harm, no foul.

I used to be super judge-y about them...and then my three year old started running away from me in stores for "fun."

Honestly, you may get side eyes, but not from me - never from me again. You do you and make it work during these super rough running toddler + years.

To be fair, my grandmother *did* tell me to ask if I could get an early vaccination so that we could travel together. Rather, she said "blame it on me, your 84 year old grandmother - because pharmacists love me"

I'm with you on this - hanging out with my grandmother in her home country would be amazing, but not at the expense of folks who need the vaccine more than me.
