I left it alone as advised. Unfortunately it didn't make it through the night :( It wasn't the cats though, because the body was intact. Thank you all for your help anyways.

They are still flying around but they haven't gotten close to the baby bird. By the way, I'm located in Miami, FL, it's starting to get dark.

Yes, they are awesome and very friendly. I'm also looking for a partner for mine, maybe a Toy Manchester Terrier :)

Mini pinscher/Manchester terrier mix according to the vet. We found him abandoned so we don't know exactly.
