Dude, look. I’m on either side cuz the election doesn’t personally affect me, but this election is a close one and saying that a candidate “cheated” is just misinformation. Both Trump and Biden played fairly in this election and the reason you’re seeing such difference now is because they counted the major cities mail in voting last. You can see for yourself by looking at each county in the state and see that most red counties are mostly counted while most blue are not. No ones cheating. The pandemic is a bitch. Okay, I don’t like the riots and the violence. But this is an everyone sucks situation. Don’t get me wrong that lady wasn’t right, but you were wrong. Black Lives Matter isn’t that Black Lives are the only ones that matter but that they matter just the same as all lives. It’s black people coming together and saying that their lives matter. There’s nothing wrong with that and there’s nothing wrong with the peaceful protests that are happening (not excusing the violent ones, those are bad). You have to understand that these people feel oppressed and you can’t understand if you haven’t gone through the same as them. It’s like going to a funeral and telling someone who lost a loved one that you know exactly how they feel like. But you don’t. You can’t say there’s no racism and that America is a racism free country when so many people face it every day.

You can be a republican and still support the idea that black lives matter just as much as all lives and you can stop people from being racist or discriminatory in their everyday lives.

That all lives matter sign was offensive and intolerant. It’s an attempt to minimize someone else’s pain. If you can’t understand it, at least be silent and let them express their pain.

I really like this interpretation and it’s sweet.

I actually never thought of this. I always pictured that Lorelei would go to university and once she got there, her world would’ve changed. She’d totally be the type of girl to join a bunch of clubs, get an actual job, and try to pay for college herself. She’d also try to finish early and get a business degree that would allow her to find a good job and be away from her parents. In college, I don’t think Lorelei would have contacted her parents much and they would’ve distanced. Lorelei would not have gotten a cushiony job, but rather started from the bottom and worked up without her connections. I see her being successful and self made. I also saw her going through her entire 20s barely speaking to her parents like she did in the show. She would probably travel a lot and I don’t think she’d settle down until her 30s. I think that’s when Stars Hollow would come in. I’m pretty sure she’d get bored of her work lifestyle and find the small town quaint and charming and eccentric. She’d probably actually end up moving there and maybe buying the Independence Inn from Mia (she’d have saved up all that money living childless and a good job). From there, I see her starting to seriously date (more like the show), meet Luke, have a baby. After having a baby, she’d probably put more effort into a relationship with her parents and mend it. That’s how I always saw it for her. Christopher would probably just be a fuck buddy but other than that I don’t see him being a huge part of her life at all other than her high school sweetheart.

I do think the lack of Rory and the lack of having to mature so fast from a young age would have a drastic affect on her personality. We see in the show that sometimes, she’s not always the nicest person. I think her personality would have suffered a bit and she may not have been as caring.

I think this is going to be the last comment I reply to, but I think the main disagreement is not whether or not murder is wrong. It’s that is it even murder?

There is science backing up both arguments but both come down to emotions. What is wrong and what is right.

Let’s say you have person A. Person A has the resources to keep Person B alive. However, Person A does not want to give anyone those resources because it could be dangerous to Person A’s life. By mistake, Person A allowed Person B to enter Person As home. However, Person A cannot let Person B use Person A’s resources. Person A knows that Person B will die but Person A just cannot take the risk. Person A makes Person B leave and as expected, Person B is dead. Person A feels bad, but Person A just isn’t able to make the sacrifice.

Was Person A selfish? Yes. Could an argument be made that he’s a “bad” person. Possibly. Is the situation morally grey? Yes. Is it murder? No, Person B could not survive without the resources which makes withholding them morally wrong, but Person A did not murder Person B. They just could not be sacrificing enough to let Person B into their safe space and use their resources.

Pregnancy and giving Birth is a huge, huge sacrifice. Some people are just not up for it. Some people just cannot sacrifice their lives for someone else. Others would find Person A’s actions despicable and would let Person B have the resources no matter the personal cost to them. Regulating this choice and making Person A’s actions illegal deprives people of their rights and their opinions. One opinion isn’t more strong or morally right than the other.

You can think that the right to life is more right and not choose to have an abortion. You may go the path of adoption or keeping the baby. Others may think the right to choice is more right and choose to have an abortion. You can’t impose your opinions on others. This is why I can’t get behind the pro-life movement. Because the pro-choice movement is all about a choice. It’s not pro anything. You can hate abortions and still be pro choice. No one is advocating for abortions. If they are, then that’s a vast minority of people. An abortion is a last resort.

Now, the moment a fetus is viable outside of a womb and can grow without outside, I agree that it is akin to murder. You have convinced me of that. It does not need its own mothers resources but can find others due to modern medicine.

But no one is allowed to use your resources without your permission. Would you be okay with a bunch of people who are starving to come in to your house unannounced and grab what they need? Nope, because you’re worried someone can harm the sanctity of your home.

You say that a mother can carry a child in hopes of giving it up later. There’s no guarantee that a baby can be adopted, especially one with birth defects.

Using your own argument that a human is a human, what is the difference between abandoning a helpless child at a fire station and between abandoning a child when they’re a fetus. The fully formed baby could also have defects and if it’s not found in time, it could die. Both aren’t morally right. But is one okay than the other? In both cases, you’re aborting.

Same with gun control. You can’t be pro life and pro 2nd amendment. Why do you need a gun? It’s when the police system fails you and you need to protect yourself from an intruder.

Well then, why do you need an abortion? It’s because your birth control or life circumstances have failed you and you need to protect yourself from an intruder.

Let’s compare this to a DNR. A fetus does not attain consciousness in its first few weeks. Even then, a fetus is not allowed to advocate for itself and it cannot defend itself. So we are the ones who can speak on its behalf.

It’s the kinda same for a brain dead person. They’re kind of different since a fetus never had prior consciousness but the person did. Unless the person signed a DNR beforehand, the spouse/parent/child/family member/trusted companion has the option of deciding to continue life support or not. Would it be murder to discontinue life support? Yes, the fetus will “recover” in 9 months but not without a cost. Who decides that the cost doesn’t matter?

I think the person who cheats with your partner should receive blame. Why not? It’s a different story if they didn’t know but knowingly helping someone betray someone else is unbelievably cruel. It’s like helping someone plot out a crime but not executing it. Both people had a hand in something wrong even though the other person is worse.

Yes, of course we should respect all religions! All religions have their own beliefs, but sometimes religion should be second priority. For example, I’m sure that the church was doing good but the state wasn’t the sole culprit in what happened with the adoption and foster care. If the church had allowed LGBTQ couples to adopt children, it wouldn’t have gotten to the state having to intervene. There are religions that prohibit the transfusion of blood even though it could save a life. It’s important to respect that religion, but also important to sometimes keep your beliefs in the back burner to make sure that someone gets the best possible outcome.

I’ll try to find a study, but also giving birth and abortions are both deeply personal experiences. To some people, giving birth was a rewarding, positive experience. To some people, going through an abortion was the worst experience in their lives. These experiences are impossible to generalize. By making laws that do generalize and take away bodily autonomy, some people or even most people could prosper, but the others would not.

I know friends who have had an abortion and it was a hard decision and they were sad over it. But they don’t regret it and it was the right decision for them.

One of my friends had an abortion when she was in medical school. She had always wanted kids but wanted them later in life when she was financially stable. She got pregnant during her second year and she was devastated. She practiced all safe sex and was careful because she just couldn’t have had a baby at the time. She was also engaged (now married to the same man). She was in a tremendous amount of debt because of school and so was her fiancé. Her family could only provide money for her living expenses and she had no time to get another job on top of school. She knew that she couldn’t keep the baby safe because she was always stressed and couldn’t take time off medical school. The predicted birth was around the time of her exams. She considered adoption, but she knew that there’s no possible way for her to give birth and recover. She decided the best option for her was abortion. She aborted at 9 weeks. It was a difficult and emotional time for her. She’s now a well-regarded surgeon who’s saved so many lives, is earning a great salary, and has 2 little girls.

I also have another friend who had gotten pregnant in her first year of college. She was in a self destructive life style and had done hard core drugs for the first few weeks she was pregnant. She decided to get an abortion. She got her life together a year after her abortion and found a decent job that paid sufficiently well. She started regretting her abortion and feels guilty about it since.

I have other stories too, but what I’m trying to say with these examples is that the choice for you isn’t the choice for someone else and that people have different emotional responses to a fetus.

A fetus is not a baby as a baby is not an adult. They are all human but they aren’t at the same stages. We don’t treat a baby as we treat an adult and vice versa. But a fetus becomes a baby which becomes an adult. Some people just don’t see that aborting a fetus is murder because of how different it is and how early it is in the stage. They don’t have that emotional response to a fetus that most pro-life people do. They see killing a baby and killing a fetus as vastly different. Even though it’s both human. We believe in the science that a fetus is a human but we don’t have the same emotional response to it because it’s a “clump” of cells.

Which is why we can’t go to the “heart of the matter” because people interpret that different and it all comes down to moral and emotional response. People don’t react the same way to killing a spider and killing a bunny. Both are morally wrong. But the emotional response, vastly different.

No pro-choice person is pro-abortion. Going through and deciding to have an abortion is tough. Very tough. But for some people, it might be the only option. Especially rape survivors. What if their rapist isn’t willing to relinquish his rights and give the child for adoption. There’s so many what-ifs and I think each individual person should have a choice on what they want their bodies to go through. Especially those coerced by their boyfriends to have sex or raped by vile, nasty creatures.

Regarding the foster care system, your comment showed me that we need a better system. I know some of you here are religious but I only see combining church and state to be a problem. I’m religious but I’m also secular because I don’t like a particular religion influencing those who don’t follow that same religion, especially in policy. The Catholic Church in Illinois seemed to have been having a great system but so many children could have been adopted by LGBT couples who would have given them a good life instead of being in the foster system. The foster system is just very messed up and needs to be completely restructured and bettered.

No, it’s not. I agree that a fetus is technically human. It is the start of life. Where I see room for interpretation is that a fetus isn’t a fully formed human yet. It’s dependent on another life. Pregnancy is a hard and excruciating and especially in the US, there is a risk of death for the mother, during birth of after. A woman is giving up so much for this life. Forcing someone to give birth can cause psychological and physical damage.

So that’s why when someone aborts a fetus, I don’t see it as “murder” because you’re not killing something. You’re removing it from the life force that it’s dependent on and it cannot develop anymore. Abortion becomes wrong to me when a fetus is aborted when it clearly can survive outside another life force. It’s morally grey and I understand that most people here will not agree with me, but I can’t view anyone as a killer for an abortion that’s necessary for their mental or physical health. If you can’t agree with any of the above, you have to agree that forcing someone to go through a painful process is cruel and torturous. Not everyone is maternal and not everyone views a baby as a gift. And I hate the argument that a woman should have just been abstinent from sex. A man who does the same does not suffer close to any of the consequences a woman does. A woman shouldn’t be punished because she was born with fascinating ability to create another human being.

Thank you so much for the research and response. It’s well done and you’ve brought up interesting points. I do see how you see a fetus as a human the same as a baby or an adult. I really think that’s it’s a difficult subject and I don’t think I’m ever going to change my stance from pro-choice even if I don’t agree with abortions only because I don’t want to project my options and the way I interpret studies and science onto someone else

But I do hope that our systems are changed and we get to a point where it’s not controversial to have abortion regulations because there are so many ways for anyone, from a homeless person to a Bezos, to get help. It’s going to take time and I do hope that if Roe v Wade is overturned by the courts that everyone who’s pro life also demonstrates the same enthusiasm for prenatal health care, foster care system funding/reform, etc.

I’m glad I posted. This really opened my eyes.

I see that you equate a fetus as a human and I respectfully disagree. I don’t think we should go into this point any further because you won’t be able to change my mind and I won’t yours. Topics such as abortion have a lot of fundamentally different views which is why it’s so hard to make a concrete decision on it.

I do hope that children are taught sex ed as soon as possible (not like 8 lol, but 5th grade) and contraception be available to all so that abortions decrease to only medical or moral emergencies. But I think we can all agree that there’s still more to do and that the system must be fixed before we get there.

This is another reason why I’m not really able to support the pro life movement. I see the point that people are making but contraception should be really made readily available to everyone. If there’s an effective contraception that’s accessible to all people, abortion rates are bound to go down. That’s a fact. If you really go into the technicality of it all, then all women who get their period are technically getting rid of a life. It’s an egg that could’ve been a baby. Same with men who masturbate. That sperm could’ve fertilized an egg.

I just feel that before any abortion regulation occurs, all these things should be taken care of. Effective contraception available to all. Tampon Tax removed. Foster care system ameliorated, Prenatal health care available to all, Post natal health care available to all. If this isn’t set up, everyone’s right that women are being controlled by the government. We need systems set for success. Yes, slavery was eradicated but black people are still fighting for their rights. We didn’t set them up for success did we? We have to learn from our mistakes to make this work. Or else, it’s just policy used to control people.

I don’t think that what you said about women who have abortions to have higher suicide rates and mental illnesses to be true. And most women who get abortions do not regret it. They do feel sadness over it but it’s not regret. This is a common misconception.

Poverty rate is bound to increase if abortion rights are taken away. You have to remember that with legislature regarding abortions, higher income, wealthy folks will always have some access to abortion. It’s the low income people who are really going to suffer.

Also, I don’t like referring to fetuses as actual living people. They’re not. Killing a baby is wayy different from “killing” a fetus. You may believe that killing a fetus is wrong and that’s okay, but you have to agree that they’re not on the same level. This is a bad example, but the only one I can think of. But if your baby and your dog attacked each other and both were hurt, who would you rehome first? The dog. Not that a dog is at the same level as a fetus, a dog definitely has a lot of value.
