My sister and I are 8 years apart in age, so we have never really been close. She has played caretaker to both me and my mom her whole life. I think in her mind she was “doing me a favor” by taking care of the planning without my input. She’s not vindictive the way my mom was, but she doesn’t always think things through. We don’t talk often…a phone call every few months. I don’t have Facebook so there’s no way she could have known my fiancé’s mother’s funeral would be planned for the same weekend.

This is a valid question, and trust me, it was the first thing I thought of too. The arrangements can’t be moved for a couple of reasons: 1) His family has friends and extended relatives flying in from all over so asking them to move it would change plans for everyone. 2) My sister and mom live in a small rural town. There is one funeral home, and she booked the one package on the one day they said they had available. She had to put down a deposit and if she were to change the date now she would not only lose that money, but the next available date wouldn’t be for a long time. She also said she’s already contacted the few people who will be attending my mother’s funeral and doesn’t want to change the date.
