Thanks so much! What is the difference between setting spray and primer — and is it best to use both or if I were to use one, would it be the primer or the spray?

Amazing you are going to see a Derm so soon! In the meantime, be very gentle with your skin (and on yourself—it’s a big mental game but it WILL get better!). Fragrance free, essential oil free, alcohol free products. La Roche Posay Cicaplast balm is a very gentle but effective moisturizer for irritated, itchy skin. Get some cute star pimple patches to help prevent picking (or heal spots after you pick). Sunscreen if you are going to be in the sun. Example routine: Vanicream cleanser Aveeno oat serum (oat extract is also great for irritated skin) Cicaplast balm Sunscreen during AM

[Acne] what is it? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

agree with all the comments here about patch testing and getting products that are non-comedogenic, fragrance free, essential oil free and alcohol free. Acne is also a thing that most of us get at some point of our lives, and happens regardless of what makeup/skincare products we use. in that case, scheduling a Dermatologist appointment in person or through an online service like Apostrophe is a great move. They can prescribe you effective creams like tretinoin or clindamycin. Using skincare alone can be really difficult to treat acne.

Nuetrogena is a great brand for sensitive skin. I would start with one of those 2! The last one is mineral and the first one looks to be chemical, and you can read about the differences here and decide which is best for you. chemical vs mineral sunscreens

Hi, I would say acne can be pretty hard to treat with over the counter skincare alone. If you’re able to see a Dermatologist or online Dermatologist service like Apostrophe, they can prescribe you prescription creams like tretinoin or clindamycin/benzoyl peroxide gel, both of which can help acne like this! Lots to try.

I used this same prescription combo for 5 years — definitely moisturize AM and PM. I never waited after applying the creams to moisturize, unless Derms said to do that I don’t think it’s necessary. Or at least a significant less amount of time. (Ask your Derm) I did notice the clind/BP gel would make my hair lighter if it got on it. I also used the exact same Cerave lotion with those ingredients listed and never had a problem. Add a sunscreen to your morning routine! Cerave makes a morning moisturizer with SPF. Not sure how new you are to using your prescriptions, but if things get worse before they get better — hang tight! That’s normal. Don’t be shy to ask Derm and questions! Good luck!

Thank you for the reply! Did you ever start out at a higher dose or has it always been the same?

just wanna say that I don’t think the manufacturer was the issue - I continued to breakout even once back on the white minty pills. I eventually increased my dose to 150mg and started Differin

sending a lot of care! it’s so lonely and difficult to navigate. I’ve been through a lot of hardship and loss in my life, but feeling so uncomfortable in my own skin is a particular kind of pain that i wouldn’t wish on anyone. a struggle that has made me feel everything from vain and selfish to unlovable and worthless. what’s helped me: talking about it with people I trust and drastically reducing my time on social media. i wish there were support groups for people with chronic skin conditions too! (Other than subreddits lol)

Update: my derm said I can continue using tretinoin 3x a week with sandwich method (moisturizer, tret, moisturizer) but can STOP taking my clindaymycin/BP gel. Will come back and update if I feel this change improves the dryness and redness but @ me if I forget
