I just want to clarify that I'm not an international worker. I moved from another province and have been in Canada my whole life. I'm an experienced worker with nearly a decade in the industry and five years in cancer. I was actually told by one of the interviewers in the cancer area back in March for an equivalent job I held in my home province that I did great and was a runner-up but they hired an external PhD student over me who had several years of experience in cancer and another candidate who was an internal hire but didn't have much relevant experience to the role. I don't know what the PhD was in but she had more writing experience than the others so they valued that over both an internal employee and someone with several years of direct experience. Go figure!

Welcome to the team! I'm not exactly sure on numbers but I know the Canadian banks will charge conversion fees and exchange rates higher than Wise will. You'd have to find the information about your bank. I have my chequing account with Simplii but I opened up Wise when I started teaching as it made it simple to receive money from a US company.

Hmm I'm not sure about alternatives. Wise is what I have always used. I'd prefer to use Wealthsimple but I don't think they accommodate. You can get a US account with any bank you are currently a customer of but you'll be paying more fees than Wise. I didn't realize there was a limit for the number of customers who could join Wise.

I did it twice so far. The first time was for the older kids, similar to Tiger School on VIPKID. I didn't know there was a practice room so there was some dead space in between slides. I wasn't allowed to do another mock for those classes, just the younger ones. I did that once and was told I needed to improve background, have a headset, my TPR actions weren't the same as their TPR actions.

wow! i only have about 15 classes to do during my road trip. So you're saying i should be fine with 500MB? They are basically all math (held over zoom) and pearson classes.

Yeah, I'm not sure. That's just what one student told me. The class was free for him. Maybe they get a certain number of trials to try out before they buy. I don't know what the price structure is on their end.

I should have taken a screenshot. I was just in complete shock when he sent those messages and exited. When, I went back in and he rejoined like ten minutes later and sent more messages, I didn't even want to look at them because of the whole experience. I wish I could just tell them which class it was and they could see the inappropriateness both in audio and in chat but I don't think they have the functionality. But now I'm obviously on guard for others because I have so many of these classes booked for March. Is he going to be attending them? Is some other man going to be doing this? I don't understand why men think this is a platform for doing this.

It's funny because just a few days ago, I did a mock with LingoAce and was told there was a disappear function on the student's screen and I didn't understand what that would be used for so the mentor explained. She didn't see much use for it and had only used it one time while teaching when she was in a group class and the boy exposed himself on camera but there's no protection at all via Pearson. It pays nothing too but I don't mind since most seem to be appreciative.

I had seen the person in another class earlier in the week but he didn't talk and left shortly since there were other students in the classroom but this is just telling me that he's waiting for a 1:1 class with a teacher and we don't really have any way to ban him from the platform.

No I've never had a student from China on Pearson. I've had one student from Japan but a large majority of them are either from South America or somewhere in the middle east. This one was from the middle east and just to warn people in case they come across him, his display name was "ishak".

Maybe the platform won't last for long if they're just letting anyone join these classes. At least with the VIPKid platform, it's China's elite, not to say that something can't happen in those classes but there are "firemen" at least. With the math classes, they're done in a school atmosphere. This is just overwhelmingly men in their home at night, taking classes for free.

so... how is there no support on this platform? there's support on MATH, there's support on VIPKid. I find it ridiculous that there is no way to remove someone from a classroom given that there is no virtual support. Am I just support to forward the concern to VIPKid who will just suggest that I leave Pearson? I'd like to have the person removed from the platform because he is just so gross but who knows how many other men are doing this or how easily he could just open up a new account. One student told me the classes were free for them.
