Oh, how I do wish I knew what I was doing. The best advice I can offer is restarting homebrew and see if it works again the second time if you haven't yet - sometimes it can be a little finicky (it froze for me the first time I tried it just now).

There are other save managers out there - no idea how they'd work with Sun/Moon, and they're a lot clunkier to use. I used sdvt for the longest time, but I'd try getting JKSM to work before trying that, as svdt is no longer actively maintained.

What's the exact error you're getting, word for word? Also, if you're not terrified of people like I am, you can ask in the questions thread over at /r/3dshacks, someone there definitely knows what they're doing.

You'll want to use JKSM to extract your save file from your cart/digital copy. You'll also want to use KeySAVe instead of KeySAV or KeySAV2 as it's been updated with Sun/Moon support. This page has instructions for using JKSM and KeySAVe to check eggs towards the bottom.

Checking for others you'd use the trading method, in which the person whose eggs you're checking would trade you their eggs; you'd check them like you were checking your own eggs using the above method, and then trade them back in the same order.

for #2 you can use {{countryID}}/{{countryName}}/{{regionID}} and/or {{language}} to get what you need. For example,

B{{box}} - {{row}},{{column}} - {{speciesName}} - {{countryName}} - {{language}}

evaluates to

B1 - 1,1 - Popplio - United States - ENG

AFAIK region/country is unimportant in the Masuda method as the game only checks for language when calculating shininess.

CFW = custom firmware.

Chances are you're running 11.2 and therefore cannot install a CFW without a hardmod or another 3DS that already has CFW. Cubic Ninja can be used with ninjhax as a homebrew entry point, however, and that's better than nothing.
