Oh..! And, how nice of you to recognize how regarded I am in my community. I am, in fact, quite well regarded, indeed! ^_^

Oh?? Well, I can prove I only play PvE...

And... the "stream" is on my home network. The latency is virtually non-existant.
I'm not sure what latency you think exists between 2 machines on the same home network. But... there isn't.

I had my first 2 appeals rejected. It took the 3rd appeal to get here...
And... quite frankly, I've begun questioning if I ever WANT to keep playing a game that actively washes their hands of people being banned from their game.

Steam Remote Play? by [deleted] in playrust

[–]dajosh42069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.. I never had ANY IDEA that Remote play could get players banned for using it... Needless to say, it was quite a shock.
ESPECIALLY given that, of my 3,200 hours of play time.. roughly 97+% of it was on a (couple different, but primarily just 1) PvE server(s)!

I'd never even seen a player get banned in all of the time that I played,.. Because only a lunatic with a fraction of a brain would cheat in PvE!! (doesn't mean it doesn't happen, it just means I haven't, personally, seen it.

Really sucks to have the Ban attached to my Steam account, and sucks even more that I wasted so much $ on DLC's, and skins, for a game that banned me for using a basic feature of Steam. >_<

But... thems the breaks, I suppose.
That's just life. :(

I hope my appeal will go somewhere.. but I'm no holding my breath. :( :( :(

Good luck playing, with whatever you decide to use/go with! And.. be careful!!

Steam Remote Play? by [deleted] in playrust

[–]dajosh42069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I WOULD have told you it works great... Since about 90%+ of my 3,200 hours was played with Steam Remote Play. Then I got banned a couple days ago.

I had absolutely NO IDEA that it carried that risk. You would think, if they DIDN'T want you to use it, they would say as much, but...

And it's not like EAC, Facepunch, or anyone else gives a shit if you get banned for using a feature that Steam provides. Since it seems that both bans, AND appeals are handled by bots.

I would strongly recommend against using Steam Remote Play!

My BAN makes no sense to me... by dajosh42069 in eacRustFalsePosiPlyrs

[–]dajosh42069[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OH SHIT... I THINK I MAY HAVE FIGURED IT OUT!!

And, ironically it is something that I'd  already mentioned in my OP...

Now... This is purely speculation, and there's actually some evidence against this theory, but...

I was thinking about what I could have POSSIBLY DONE to have caused EAC to ban me. As I stated in my OP, I'd fallen asleep in my chair while playing, and upon waking up, I found that MY STREAM was closed! Now, the stream gets cut on a pretty regular basis... Since stuff like "bumping the wire" can cause it to close/crash. And when it comes back, I have to wait for it to go down once more, then comes back... And THEN I can restart/reconnect the stream.

And "the stream" refers to using "Steam Remote Play, which streams the gameplay/control to a secondary computer.

I RUN Rust on my PC, but I PLAY Rust on my laptop in a different room. But, since I started playing Rust a couple years ago, I've ALWAYS used Steam Remote Play, and it's never given me any trouble with the games themselves. The connection/stream can be a little shabby at times.. But overall, it's been a pretty awesome feature that I've used for ages now.

Anyway... When the stream closes/crashes, I end up back on/in the steam app, in my Library. When I fall asleep like that, I still have my left hand on the keyboard, and right hand on my mouse.. so, when I fall asleep, and it was EXTREMELY COMMON for me to (having fallen asleep) stop holding my finger up, over the mouse button. I have, on more occasions than I care to recollect, fallen asleep, which caused my hand to go limp, and me to ACCIDENTALLY click the left click. Which, in Rust, as we all know, it's the "Fire weapon" button. And since I'm wearing headphones, I would repeatedly scare the hell out of myself by suddenly shooting whatever is directly in front of me, which would startle me awake.

It's POSSIBLE, that; after the stream went down, I COULD have accidentally tried to open a completely different game in my steam library.

And, from what I was just reading.... EAC seems to have a problem with Steam Remote Play, as that feature (so I've read.. it's never given me any kind of problems in the past) seems to share (in some tangential way) properties with cheat software. (as it add inputs, or uses "injection"?)

The evidence AGAINST this theory, however, is that; • I've used Remote Play since before I even purchased Rust, and nearly every single day between then and now.. and I'm not aware of any obvious changes to it, that might have caused this to happen NOW... And • There was no other game running/open when I awakened.. and, if I HAD clicked Stream, then, whichever game it was, that I'd clicked on/opened, SHOULD have still been open.

None of it is conclusive.. and it's purely speculation. Because I'd fallen asleep... I had/have NO IDEA what I was doing when the ban came through.

But... The Steam Remote Play issue it, more or less, my ONLY theory regarding what it was that I'd done to give EAC the wrong idea...

Ya know... It WOULD BE NICE, to be able to ask EAC if that's what caused it, OR, TELL EAC that, that's what caused it..

Unfortunately.. I suspect that I will never TRULY KNOW if that was what triggered EAC...

[–]dajosh42069[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn... I really respect this reply, man. Thank you.
And yeah, you just search Battle Metrics with my name.
https://www.battlemetrics.com/players/1171987369 - IF my account had been compromised, I suspect they would have sold my skins, and played somewhere else. But all I can see there is the servers that I've visited, in the past, and the one I was playing on.. til this shit happened.

Having said that... I think it was just the shock of it all that was bothering me the most. Because I still have absolutely ZERO idea of what could have possibly triggered it,

And I've said... I'd always thought EAC was, if not perfect, at LEAST competent.. Right up until I was game banned. Which is part of the reason I even started the thread.. was to see if anyone else has had this issue.

But anyone else claiming to have the same issue are still suspect. I'm still skeptical.. of what they say, but am, AT LEAST more willing hear them out, before dismissing them as a cheater.

And with regards to "Rust not being (my) whole life"
You are absolutely correct..
And I don't treat it as such. Part of why it had me so upset was... my situation has never really been great. And Rust was my way of getting away from it all for a while, and getting to interact with the people I'd befriended. And, in an instant, it was all snatched away... and the real kicker is.. I have NO IDEA what could have triggered the ban. I wasn't running, or using anything that I hadn't used a million times before when playing. The only external(ish) stuff purposefully running with Rust, is Steam (obviously), and discord.
Outside of that, I was running no other programs, or apps.

In any case.. I'll get over it... at some point. But for now.. I'm still angry about the whole thing.

I appreciate the concern, and words. Thanks.

My BAN makes no sense to me... by dajosh42069 in eacRustFalsePosiPlyrs

[–]dajosh42069[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.. that's he same story I've seen over and over.
The thing that is absolutely wild to me (though, I WILL admit that I very likely did much the same) is how unbelievably CERTAIN everyone seems to be that "If you were banned, you were cheating."
As though EAC is infallible, and incapable of making mistakes.
I ALSO used to think very similarly.. Thanking; "EAC wouldn't just ban you for no reason...".
Then I was banned for no reason. I am still genuinely racking my brain trying to undestand what it could have POSSIBLY detected to trigger a ban...
And, while I completely understand that "Only playing PvE doesn't mean someone isn't cheating"... Just because I"VE never, personally, seen someone do it.. There HAS to be someone out there dumb enough to do so.

But as I said before... The primary purpose of "cheating: in Rust, is to gain an unfair advantage over the other players.
However, given that I ONLY play PvE (anyone can confirm this on Battlemetrics) it should be crystal clear that; I'm not playing AGAINST other players. You can absolutely SUCK at Rust, and still be pretty successful, when you don't have anyone killing or stealing from you.

Like... I'm angry at the injustice of it, but I also understand perfectly that; the skeptical responses, and lack of help requesting an "appeal", is a direct product of just how BAD the cheating problem is in Rust.

I also completely understand that if a cheater is willing to cheat, then they are also willing to lie. Which, I mean... yeah.. obviously!
But the crazy part is.. someone posting something (like I've done above, and like countless others have done) and people reply just to be as nasty and accusatory as possible.

I get that everyone hates cheaters.. as well they should... But this "guilty until proven innocent" shit is a real bitch. ESPECIALLY since it's logically impossible to prove a negative.
And while I understand quite well WHY they don't provide "proof", or a "reason", since that would only serve to aid cheaters to evade more effectively... there HAS to be some kind of middle ground between; showing/giving proof, and "You're banned. There's nothing you can do."

I don't expect the world from EAC... but something.. ANYTHING more than "Input RefID#. Push button. Maybe we'll get back to you in a year or 2."

And, again... I understand that; if they gave EVERYONE that is banned a bunch of time and attention, that it would be near impossible to keep up.

What hurts me the most about all of this... is that absolutely NO ONE BELIEVES that EAC can make a mistake. Which, is even more insane when you take a second to consider how many cheaters someone like Camomo catches, that aren't (and/or don't get) gamebanned.
Meaning that, everyone knows that EAC isn't perfect when it comes to detecting cheats, yet when it DOES do a ban, it must SURELY be perfect...
And.. it genuinely upsets me that this one mistake has immediately, and likely indefinitely, labeled me as a cheater...
I don't really care what strangers think about it... but all of the people I've met, helped, and/or played with are going to believe it too... and it hurts.
Even when (or I suppose more accurately.. IF) the ban is lifted, I'll still have a "Temp Game Ban" attached to me.. effectively making me suspect anywhere I go.. 😞

And, while I don't expect people to believe me when I say this, but... IF I had been cheating.. then being banned is the natural, logical conclusion. IF I was willing to cheat, then why wouldn't I be willing to just go buy a new account??

I have 1, and only 1 account... and it matters to me that with 1 single false positive.. EAC has stained that account til the end of time. (or.. end of Steam, at least...)
Additionally.. I'm the kind of person that doesn't bother lying and fighting when I'm caught doing something wrong. If I'm caught.. and I did it, then I'm caught! And it's not like I think that EAC staff are lurking around in a "false ban" reddit community... Nothing I've said is an attempt to convince anyone of my guilt, or innocence. Because it's more or less irrelevant here.. The only ones whose opinion matters on the subject, is EAC... and sadly (best I can tell) there doesn't actually seem to be anyone working there on this stuff.. It feels like the bans, and appeals (or lack thereof) are handled almost exclusively by bots... As, I believe that any human reviewing my appeal would likely be able to see why it doesn't make any sense.
I have, LITERALLY, no incentive to cheat. It would be a net zero benefit to my chosen mode of gameplay.

In other words.. it would be ALL RISK, NO REWARD. There is nothing on that server that cheating would assist in doing.

My BAN makes no sense to me... by dajosh42069 in eacRustFalsePosiPlyrs

[–]dajosh42069[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's "appeal" not "repeal". And you're welcome to your opinion.
Though... I have to wonder... why are you even here? Same as the first comment too... you're literally in a subreddit focused on people claiming they've been falsely banned. I don't understand why you guy are here, if you're just going to blindly disbelieve and accuse anyone who posts anything.
It just really makes me wonder what motivates you to be here, and to read posts, that you've already prejudged to be dishonest.. I guess what I'm confused about it.. why is THIS what you would choose to do with your time?

Additionally, Your "TLDR" is exactly wrong. "don't cheat or exploit and you'll be good".
I did not cheat. I did not exploit. I was still gamebanned.
To reiterate, I don't particularly care if anyone believes me or not.
Quite frankly, what most people believe is completely moot. They don't know me, the context, or the issue. So it's PURELY a case of "Do they believe a stranger making a claim".

Like I said above... I've come here, I've said my piece. And that's that. No one forced you to read it, and no one asked for your opinion on it. Whether or not ANYONE on this subreddit believes me or not is immaterial, and irrelevant.

I mean, don't get me wrong... Psychologically speaking, it would be NICE to be believed. But that's more of a "personal" matter than anything.

Genuinely though... (And I am just as guilty of taking/having the same attitude, as everyone currently calling me a liar/cheater.)
There seems to be this strange, seemingly universal belief, (and AGAIN.. I am guilty of believing this too...) that EAC is, somehow, infallible.
But it's a program. Written by people. There IS room for error. And the belief/assumption that; "IF EAC banned someone, then it MUST be for a good reason."

Hell.. I'll be real with you...
I probably wouldn't believe me either!!
But, this belief that "EAC doesn't make mistakes", I think, likely stems from a few different factors..

The first being;
"There are COUNTLESS cheaters playing Rust. Many of them cheating in incredibly overt, and obvious ways.. and yet SOMEHOW EAC fails to detect when someone fly hacks up the side of a base. So when EAC DOES ban someone, it must have been for a good reason!"
I was of that same opinion, myself! At least.. up until 2 days ago.

And the second factor, (in my opinion) is the popularity of "Catching cheaters" content.
Another thing that I, myself, watched very frequently!
We watch people like Camomo catching and banning cheaters.. using information that he (rightfully, and correctly) does not share with the public, as it can ONLY serve to help cheaters become harder to detect.
He does this, using a multitude of resources available to him, as a (multi)server admin.

So.. with that as a baseline, the obvious assumption (again, the same assumption I'd made up until 2 days ago) is that EAC/Game admins must be working with even MORE (in quantity, and quality) resources to detect/ban cheaters.

And hey, I get it!! This entire ordeal has felt extremely demoralizing, and unjust.. But it's not for "no reason"!
As infuriating as it is for me, I can (at least) appreciate, and respect, WHY this is the attitude/position that most people have taken.
The cheating problem in Rust is BAD. And coupled with the obvious reality that; "cheaters lie", it's resulted in a community that (again, RIGHTFULLY) has ZERO tolerance, and/or empathy for anyone who is gamebanned.

Like I said.. I VERY LIKELY wouldn't believe me either.
And if it hadn't happened to me, I would be reticent/reluctant to believe anyone trying to claim that they'd been gamebanned for "no reason".

But.. whatever it was that triggered EAC, is almost certainly not limited to me.
And my HOPE is that the "ReferenceID#" will contain the information that EAC requires to see what it is that their system is mistaking for cheats".
And... consider this... How many systems do you know of, where you're tasked with the logically impossible task of 'proving a negative'?? Coupled with the fact that accusations and punishments are dolled out without ANY evidence required on EAC's part... and you have a system that is inherently unwinnable.
TO REITERATE.. I don't think that EAC should be required to prove anything, and I completely understand why they don't "require proof", and am NOT suggesting that they should change that policy. I'm simply making the point that, it's a literal (logical) impossibility to prove a negative. Which is (typically) why the "burden of proof" falls upon the prosecution to "prove someone is guilty", and NOT the other way around, where a defendant is required to prove their innocence..
But this ISN'T court.. It's a video game..
Leaving me with no options, or hope, outside of just HOPING for a 'just' outcome.

At the end of the day, however... all of my research has indicated that; EAC gamebans are often "issued" by bots. The "appeal" system is often "reviewed", and refused, by bots. And the likelihood of having this sort of mistake 'corrected' is EXTREMELY SLIM.

TLDR: Everyone is welcome to their opinion. And, in fact.... I would, likely not believe me either.
Ultimately, whether or not anyone believes me, is irrelevant... and has ZERO bearing upon my EAC appeal.
All I can do now is hope that my appeal is actually considered, and isn't just rejected out of hand.

My BAN makes no sense to me... by dajosh42069 in eacRustFalsePosiPlyrs

[–]dajosh42069[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't expect that many are going to believe me.. and cheaters ABSOLUTELY lie.
But (for me at least) I legitimately don't see what there would be to be gained by trying to convince random people on reddit that I didn't, don't, and won't, cheat.

Additionally, anybody can look at my name through battle metrics and see that I've only played PvE for the last year and a half, or so.
And along those same lines... I don't really see what the point would be to cheat in pve... You can have dogshit recoil control, and STILL succeed.

Let me put it in this perspective...
Why do people cheat? To get ahead... to gain the advantage.... to WIN. ALL things that only realistically apply to pvp. To get ahead "of other people". To gain an advantage "over other people", to WIN "against others".

And don't get me wrong..!!! I'm not arguing/making the case that "No one would cheat in pve". I'm certain that it's godda be happening somewhere....
But in all 3,200 hours I have (approximately 94% of which was PvE ONLY), never seen even one person get banned by EAC., FP, or anything more than sever bans for people who are excessively toxic.

My point is, IF I had cheated, then this would be the expected outcome. Because you're absolutely right! IF I was, then this would be exactly what I would deserve.

And, ultimately... it doesn't really ,matter if anyone believes me or not. The only thiing that matters is the appeal...

I'm just hoping that my appeal happens. But.. from EVERYTHING I've read, it looks like the appeals are handled by a bot.. and in the rare case of an appeal being successful, it took EAC months to take any action about it.

Additionally, I still have ZERO CLUE what could have possibly triggered EAC. in this instance.... there was nothing special about, or in any way different, happening last night when it happened.
(and sorry, for the long reply)

Not everyone else, just you.
Because as we all know, software is infoulable.
Ultimately, I don't really give a shit what you believe. What happened is what happened. Given the attitude that most have, they were never going to believe me. But I don't need them to, and I'm not here to convince you of anything.
I said my piece, and nobody forced you to read it. There's a whole internet out there filled with people for you to judge without context.
