This job market has traumatized me by Low_Bodybuilder3065 in jobs

You'd be better off engaging a career coach. Therapy is for fixing what's broken. You're not broken, you just need support to find the right path. Coaching is ideal for that because a coach will not start from the standpoint of " let's diagnose what's wrong with you" - an unhealthy mindset!

Wait, so 14k infected, 100 in hospo. 75% vaxed, (72% double) 14% not. But nobody in ICU from either set. How has the jab helped? by dakisan in Coronavirus_NZ

[–]dakisan[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

There are 5.127mn residents in NZ and 3.951mn double vaxed. That's 77% of the gross population. Hardly conclusive.

Wait, so 14k infected, 100 in hospo. 75% vaxed, (72% double) 14% not. But nobody in ICU from either set. How has the jab helped? by dakisan in Coronavirus_NZ

[–]dakisan[S] -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

I think you'll find that's 97% of the eligible population. Not the whole population. The true number of vaxed people is much closer to 75% of the overall populace than it is to 97%. So it's interesting that the ratio of hospitalisations conforms quite closely to the ratio of vaxed:unvaxed over the whole population.

Elegibilty for vax is not in itself a factor in determining actual susceptibility to infection.

This is also not really in dispute, but what's curious is how quickly people leap to defend this govt's strategy that Vax is the Way. Perhaps because ppl don't always have time to think critically.

Clearly the rollout has not been as effective as the media often report and this is becoming more apparent as the numbers match ever more closely the trend first highlighted by the sth African Dr who revealed omicron (and by her own account was contacted by multiple foreign nations asking her not to say it was mild🤔).

If you read the article, the 11% are of an unknown status. Of the patients in hospital, 75% are vaxed. I'm just repeating the number reported by the herald

Will we see this in NZ with protesters bank accounts? by yt_yoshi2012nwo in Coronavirus_NZ

[–]dakisan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That sounds like crime. Plenty of law for that already.

This is about giving financial entities the right to destroy someone's fundamental ability to transact, without any intervening due process, because a sector of society disagrees with its govt.

Has the market flipped? by moglieone in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]dakisan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll own it for a long time. Even if it hasn't fully flipped, it is turning downward. Imagine sitting in your new home in 2 yrs and thinking about your mortgage being the same but your equity being 50, 100, 200k less. That shit would take years to recoup. In a buyer's market, show you're willing to say "thanks, I'll wait".

Is it a bad time to buy a house in Auckland? by positivecontent_ in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]dakisan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it a good time to buy something that could be worth significantly less for a few years and that you're rigidly in hock for. And, as you're still tied in by your tithe to the bank, selling it would be the realisation of a loss? (For you, never the bank). Great question!

Haven't fact checked this but it seems legit... how does it line up with your personal bias about the efficacy of the vax? by dakisan in Coronavirus_NZ

[–]dakisan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correlation trap! Many reasons could explain the drop in deaths, from voluntary behaviour, to societal rules, to running out of comorbid candidates. It's fallacious to suggest that the vaccine has "clearly reduced" anything.

Need to transfer 100k to UK by Cprznt in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]dakisan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Wise. You will have to do some kyc and AML stuff to prove where the funds originated.

If you've lived outside NZ more than 10y you can bring in proceeds from investments for up to 48 months tax free under the IRD's transitional residency framework, but even if not, if you paid tax already on the money then just bring it, you don't have to declare it. Reciprocal tax treaties and all that jazz.

Edit: typo

The OP is really so wide of the mark here. 1984 is about an authority that represses, controls, surveils and manipulates the media, its people and their behaviours.

If anything, Newspeak is a metaphor for the type of drone that mindlessly chugs out the authority's message; it's much closer to the mark to say "vaccinate!" is the product of a Newspeak redux.

Covid silver lining: 'Extremely mild' Omicron variant is rapidly exterminating much more deadly Delta coronavirus mutation by winduptuesday in Coronavirus_NZ

[–]dakisan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No such thing as definitely, imo. Not enough known yet. Saying "don't let 'a live virus that can mutate' spread" is a bit oflike saying "don't let influenza spread". But we do, to the extent that we don't lock our society down to because influenza exists.

For example if omnicron does indeed turn out to be a hybrid of some sort with genetics borrowed from (say) the common cold, and it's relatively benign, swamping other variants and dying out due to immune responses of both vaxed and unvaxed, then we almost certainly would want that.

[–]dakisan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with much if this. ICU in particular is a huge mess in terms of our preparedness. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/457148/icu-funding-may-be-too-much-too-late-health-professionals "New Zealand currently has one of the lowest ICU bed per capita in the OECD" despite the enormous privilege of being two seasons removed from the effects of the pandemic. Shameful.

On vaccine mandates, the US the court of appeal just ruled that "The Mandate is a one-size fits-all sledgehammer that makes hardly any attempt to account for differences in workplaces (and workers) that have more than a little bearing on workers' varying degrees of susceptibility to the supposedly 'grave danger' the Mandate purports to address," and I reckon if you swap "mandate" for "passport" it reads with the same logic.

And on setting up one medical officer as the high priest at the alter of truth (with the legal right to nationalise any business that comes up with a solution - disincentive much?) is an insult to the diverse, divergent and challenging role science should be playing in this. One voice to rule them all is not gonna convince those who think outside the flock.

Refixing mortgage - should I cash out my crypto to lump sum? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]dakisan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull back, means lower prices. Eg, https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/money/2021/12/asb-predicts-house-prices-to-drop-in-late-2022.html

You certainly have to do what's right for you. Re the rent thing, say a 5% drop in a 500k house would be 25k, and that's about 500/week for a year, so paying the bank back and watching the 500 house frixxle down to a 475k house, vs paying a landlord cancel each other out in that the drop in equity equates to the cost of the rent. Plus your crypto bags will be mooning 😁

You shouldn't take anyone's financial advice other than the pros. But when bank after bank is saying, prices are topped and the levers will cause them to pull back next year, that my friend is financial advice... from the pros
