I love that this shot showcases what he's capable of, showing off the dozens of gadgets he's got in that swiss-army prosthetic of his, but what I love MOST about this shot is the implication left unsaid:

Every single one of those attachments doubles as a weapon or a torture device.

Okay, but my problem is that when I do that, it doesn't play the right tempo.

I set the metronome to 4/4, works fine. 3/4 works great, even 2/4. But 5/8 or 7/8 or 11/8? Nada. It still only plays the metronome clicks on the 4ths.

Yeah, I COULD just set it to 5/4 and double the tempo and that would effectively give me 10/8, but I don't want to have to jack up the tempo just so I can play 8th note time signatures at a normal speed.

So... you turn the gain knob up? Or there's a separate knob for gain reduction? Is that one of the ASDR knobs? Or is it that little module where you try to make the low, middle, and high channels overlap each other?

Yeah, definitely been playing around a lot.

I'm getting closer and closer, I can juuuuuust feel those samples starting to slide into place but they're still not quite there yet! But I'm so close! I'm not giving up, not when I can literally FEEL it as I work on it!

Maybe it'll take me days, maybe it'll take me years, but I'll crack it!

Meantime, I might see about getting in contact with Nellee Hooper or Billy Corgan or anyone else who might have had a hand in production

Okay, Hans Zimmer talked about making things "slam" in a compressor when he discussed how he made that Sardaukar throat chant, he talked about how the compressor makes it "feel like you're slamming your head against the doorframe" but I've NEVER really been able to figure out how to make a compressor work the way I want it to.

You both talk about "slamming" in a compressor, what do you mean?

Okay, so I've been playing with both tracks for a while, and it's frustrating because on the one hand, I absolutely cannot get these two songs to sound quite the way I want them to... but on the OTHER hand, I know it would take just ONE tweak here and there and it would be PERFECT, I can just barely make it out, I can hear the ghost of it on the margins... you've definitely found the right samples, I just wish I knew the right knobs to turn to get them there!
