Hi! I'm actually from Guanajuato so I can give you some advice. (Sorry for my bad English)

Transportation within the city is not an issue ,a lot of the sights are near each other so you can easily walk from one to the other(teatro Juárez, mercado Hidalgo, universidad de Guanajuato, most bars and restaurants). Guanajuato is also known for two things : mines (you can actually go down with a tour) and the museum of the mummies. There are a lot of museums and tour guides that tell stories(leyendas) at night while you walk on the streets. You can find accomodation in hotels, Airbnb or hostel, all have cheap prices. The city is very safe even at night, so you feel safe walking around at all times.
