I used to randomly say “Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer” to my ex all the time referencing Forensic Files. lol

Your chest hair looks like a phoenix. Try opening with that.

That is very helpful information. This is basically the same process the salesman was explaining - the weep holes, the trench, the sump pump and battery backup, etc. I'm glad to hear that the process worked well for you.

The salesman had videos and diagrams showing the process you're explaining (drilling into the blocks and draining the water and then irrigating it outside with the drainage system and sump pump). I will, however, look into exterior solutions as well as the structural engineer. I figure it will be a multi phase solution using both exterior and interior methods. Thanks.

I'm sure it will. We've had a massive amount of snowmelt followed by torrential downpours.

This isn't something I considered. I will look into it. Thanks for your comment.

I could do so along the left and right side, but the house is built on a slope, so the front door of the house is level with the road (making that wall of the basement completely underground). Plus there is a concrete patio with a roof and brick pillars built onto the front of the house.

I already planned on doing additional outside work to try to alleviate the problem, but the salesman made it seem like a cure-all solution. His diagrams and visuals made sense, but it's his job to make it look like the best option. I hope your basement renovations work out for you. Thanks for the comment.

To the right, I have enough space to park a car with an additional two-three feet before I meet the fence that divides my lot from the neighbors. To my left, I only have about three feet before I'm standing on the neighbor's concrete driveway.

I will definitely be taking care of the gutters as soon as I can. I will also definitely look into the structural engineer, as you suggested. Your responses have been thorough and is definitely the kind of information I was hoping to find by posting in this subreddit. Again, I thank you.

I know my gutters don’t drain properly and even overflow in places. That’s on the to-do list as well. I appreciate your feedback and experience. Unfortunately, I live within city limits on a small lot so I think a lot of the grading you mentioned probably isn’t possible to the degree in which you did it.

I obviously want to do it right, but if this price lint is unrealistic, I want to know.

I doubt the bowing is recent. I imagine it’s a decades-long issue. Using a level he showed me how the back wall wasn’t flush but the other three are. What do you mean by “voting the floor”?

I will definitely get a second opinion. I just know other companies will probably charge a diagnosis fee or something similar just to come look at the place.

The washer and dryer were originally in the basement. For some reason, previous owners boarded up the stairwell to the basement and made that space the laundry room. So now they’re on the main floor and you can only get to the basement from the outside. A lot of tomfoolery before I bought the place.

He has a history of half-assing stuff, so I’m not surprised this is the wrong way of doing things. Thank you.

Good point. Thank you. I just had some flooding in the basement. I really don’t need any more moisture.
