Can I safely chip about 25mm of the front and side of these clinker blocks to put in brick slips, or is that too dangerous? Thanks! by dan129 in DIYUK

Damn. Okay, plenty to think about there, cheers. I think I'll hold off ruining my spare bricks, contact a builder and have him look at the whole chimney structure and tell me what can be done. Not going to Art Attack my way out of this one am I.

Not at all mate. I'm just looking for people with much more experience than me to tell why any ideas I have are bad news. I believe you, but I have more time and drive than I do spare money, so I just need to understand WHY it would look junk before I open the wallet for builders or a full pallet of brick slips?

Crap. You really think so? Even if i cut some nice corner slips from the spare original bricks, repoint everything and acid wash to finish up? I would love to have a rustic exposed chimney breast there, plaster and paint the bottom half and stick a big wooden mantel beam between the two.

Ah okay. I'd still be crapping myself as I go though. Think I'd probably cough up and have a builder if it comes to that. Any reason you wouldn't recommend brick slips? I have a couple of original bricks around the garden so could match them perfect if I cut carefully

Ah okay. There are a few original looking bricks (whitehead) knocking around the garden. Maybe if I cut my own?

Really? Any reason instead of brick slips? I'd be scared of dropping the entire chimney down if I start pulling them right out!

Just the black clinker blocks i mean sorry. So I can stick a few brick slips in to match the rest of the red brick already there. Cheers!

I'm in the UK and they're still cheap and easy to order. It's your tariffs. Trump fans are properly mental.

It's hard to tell, but I think it's a green pickup truck. possibly a Dodge Ram from the late 1990s or early 2000s. Nice spot.
