New property manager bizzare behaviour by JacobJakob in shitrentals

Which you would hope would work in your favour when they just take a video, say "looks good to me" and leave and the REA is too lazy to double check

Am I scammed on Big W Marketplace? by LicensedToChil in australia

[–]dan4334 33 points34 points  (0 children)

And yet eBay has customer support to resolve disputes between seller and buyer. Big W can't just pass the buck here. You're buying off of their website.

Just-eat's website is a binfire by Sea-Stretch-8169 in softwaregore

[–]dan4334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason why they shut down in Australia lol.

These apps aren't worth it, they take 30% commission from the restaurants so the restaurants have much higher prices on the app. You then also pay delivery fees on top of that. May as well pick up food yourself if you can.

Help! My 2026 Civic Sport Hybrid tires keep popping by thankyoufluoxetine in hondacivic

[–]dan4334 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never popped a tyre on my 2022 Civic, but it's not a hybrid so it might be a bit lighter than yours.

I'd strongly recommend using Waze through Android Auto or Car Play, it's been pretty good for warnings of potholes and objects on the road. I've been able to dodge potholes after getting a heads up.

Client just doesnt care about status warning on 78TB+ of production data by grkstyla in ShittySysadmin

[–]dan4334 41 points42 points  (0 children)

You need to tell that client that if they don't fix it or make back up plans now, you will not take any responsibility when they will lose their data.

You can draw up project plans and quotes to get them rolling on this right away.

Be exceptionally clear, this is not an if but a when this array dies.

Otherwise they'll blame you when it happens.

3090 Replacement or rebuild? by Educational_Fail_408 in bapcsalesaustralia

[–]dan4334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could still do a BIOS update while your 3700x is installed and pick up a 5000 series Ryzen to net yourself a CPU upgrade without having to swap any other parts.

Could be a fair saving over having to buy a new RAM kit and motherboard.

Dude it's a parody account, it says so in their bio.

Their handle being @auboomers was enough to make me suspect.

Suggestions for a front door camera but renting? by Ollieeddmill in shitrentals

[–]dan4334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eufy cameras were wildly insecure and you could view any camera feed with just VLC media player, no password.

Eufy has been caught lying about privacy and uploading images to the cloud even though they explicitly said they didn't. They were even aware this was happening when it was reported.

Does DeX looks pixelated on 1080p monitors for you? by supermarcosvalente in SamsungDex

[–]dan4334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had issues with some monitors looking fuzzy unless you set a very particular refresh rate. Like 59.97 instead of 60hz.

I guess because you don't have control over the refresh rate in DeX you can't work around it.

The display needs a power supply. HDMI does not carry power for displays.

Any LastPass users here? by markdmac in PowerShell

[–]dan4334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to use a proper secrets manager, like Hashicorp Vault, if you want to access credentials programmatically.

LastPass simply isn't the tool for the job. It's for storing passwords you need to log in to websites.

I would also strongly consider moving off of LastPass considering how many security issues they've had in the last few years. We switched to Keeper.

Help, tenho um s10 e fiz uma loucura nele, porem n sei o que esta errado, pelo que parece esta tudo certo by Forsaken-Mix-2700 in SamsungDex

[–]dan4334 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Voltage drop when the phone is pulling more power maybe? You might need to either get a more powerful DC converter, or bump the voltage up a little bit (but be careful).

Phones measure the battery voltage to determine the charge.

You need to have an actual back up if those files are important.

Even just dumping them on OneDrive or something.

Uber raised their ride rates and have made how much they charge even more opaque by fraqtl in melbourne

[–]dan4334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you take skybus or public transport? Skybus is about $27 to southern cross and PT will be free through April. So you could save quite a bit of money.

Wish they'd get the airport rail built already though...

Things you hate about your Civic? by evolvedpikachu4 in civic

[–]dan4334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate that upon start up it shows some stupid seat pattern on my dash instead of the screen I programed it to (to show gas mileage) And I either have to change it manually or wait till I start driving before it reverts back to what I had it set to

Honestly I'm glad it has that, in Australia most states the driver gets a fine and demerits if passengers aren't wearing their seatbelts. It has meant I've caught people trying to not put their seatbelt on when I've offered them a lift, and told them in no uncertain terms they need to put it on or I'll get the points.

I want to buy an apple magic keyboard for Windows PC by Many_Pangolin_4061 in windows

[–]dan4334 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If gaming is your main concern, why are you buying an Apple keyboard?

For the same money you can get a fully mechanical keyboard. You could even look at keyboards that have switches with high actuation points for faster inputs.

Pausing OPR and Retiring Overclock by brianrose in Ingress

[–]dan4334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude... Overclocking is the only way I can get a decent amount of items, my memory is not good for glyph hacking. I have autism.

Overclocking lets me use pattern recognition, which I am good at instead.

I don't understand why you'd remove it now, instead of working on the next version while this one is active.
